Ok im in the market for a dvd burner this will be my 1st & i want top of the line or near top. I own 6-7 plextor cd-rw drive so i like them but i see the sony 530A with a firmware update is faster then plextor. So im looking at that also plextor has a new 12x on its plate the 712SA . Should i wait till may for this drive its SATA. I have waited 2 months now what 2 more.
 
If you wait 2 more months for the Plextor 712SA, dual-layer drives will be just about on the market too.So if you're not in too much of a hurry, wait till May-end,June-beginning, and check out the dual-layer drives out then.
The 712 will NOT do dual-layer, and it's 12X +R writing speed is not ratified by the DVD+RW Alliance.16X is the next official standard, after 8X.
