When overclocking my Intel 630 up to 3.6ghz I can post fine and enter windows but when I go past that ( about 245FSB I think) I can not post anymore but load into windows just fine and have great stability.

When I hit Save and exit bios my computer shuts off then comes back on after 4 secs but my settings are still there. What causes this? The Power supply?

Also By running memtest 86 at my overclock settings will this show that the system is stable at the current speed.

In Windows, I ran 2 instances of Prime95, 1 does Blend while the other runs FFT or whatever it is called which causes the most cpu usage and heat. Is this good for seeing how stable my system is?

I save the speed I want in bios, hit save and exit, computer shuts off, then comes back on and post fine and loads into windows and keeps mine settings I saved.

It's by design. It has to be the MB, and quite probably the BIOS, because my new MB does the same thing, and this didn't happen before with the old MB (see sig).

95% sure its the motherboard limitation 1) not letting it go past a certain FSB, and 2), the crash free bios or w/e Asus' markiting calls it which will restore the BIOS if failure to post occures.

No, because my AOpen board does the same thing. And my settings are intact after it does this. It's the BIOS' way of ensuring the settings are saved and the board boots with the set values.

Yea but if I go 3.6ghz and under it doesn't do this. Thats why Im thinking it might be the PS not being able to handle the sudden draw of power or something else.

Mine does not do it all the time either. I haven't been able to pin this down at so what changes actually make it do this...

OK... Looks like it only occurs when I lower the FSB. BIOS seems to be ensuring that the new lower setting is actually getting used.

ok, try this one.... When I got my Intel 630 cpu I noticed it had a brown spot on one of the pins. This is not normal right? What could have caused this. The guy before me was running it at 4ghz on water around the same voltage im using now and it never got above 38C. Thats what he said anyways. If I sent this to Intel would they replace it with a new one?

did you change the power settings? or are you oporating at default?

I have had troubles when overclocking... Once I save the power settings, I couldnt change anything, because of the raised CPU voltage, it would corrupt the bios settings every time I tried to save a setting.

I had to reset the bios (with the jumper) and then make any changes and save it.

at 4Ghz you have to raise it just a little bit otherwise Prime 95 will fail in like 2 mins. Not getting enough juice under load.
