So what do guys do with your old computers? I used to go and give them to members of my family, but now everyone's got one. :D Parts I've kept in a box...but I'm not sure what to do with a working system.

Junk, Scrap, or throw in the garage? Or do guys go for a mad mod project?

Right now it just sits in a corner, waiting to be scrapped for parts, but I'd like to put it to good use if I could. The culprit in question is a 466 celeron with a 6 and 2 gig hd and 64 megs of ram.
 
The two old ones I have are Pentium 4 1.4 Ghz machines, so they're not slow. I use them as my cvs servers or on the road development (one's a laptop). I also use them for experimenting with software and programs I won't be running on my main machine.

My other comp is a P1 133, that machine is good as dead, so it just sits around wasting space.
 
A server of some sort (possibly for a website, images etc...), Folding Box, Give it to someone who doesn't have a computer, etc...

Do something useful with it :cool:
 
I personally just regained my former AMD system to use as my backup to my main rig here, in case my RAID-0 array fails or something, I have another computer that I can fall back on in times of crisis with schoolwork and such.

I also have an old AMD K6/2 500 Mhz system that I have used once or twice as a music box when I've had a few massive parties at my place. It is hella old, but extremely useful on the rare occasion!

I still have my 20MHz 386...I guess I feel like I just have to hold onto it...though I don't foresee it having any purpose in the future.
 
As I used to tell customers when I sold computers:

put it in front of those doors that close by themselves, and it holds them open pretty well! :D

Seriously, if it's only 2-3 years old and you have the parts, get folding! Or donate to charity.
 
If you have a comp you dont know what to do with you could always drop folding@home on it and help find a cure for cancer.

or

Make it some kind of server and also put folding@home on it.Or put Linux on the box if you never have tried Linux before. ....and put folding@home on it

See where I am going with this?
 
Frame it. :D Makes for some nice art work if you back light it.
You could make an HTPC or a linux box with it too (depending on how old of course).
