I'm considering two options...

Zalman CNPS7000AlCu
or
Cooler Master Hyper 6 KHC-V81

I really like the Coolermaster, considering switching the fan for a Panaflo or something. But all the reviews scare me away b/c of the weight.

3000+ Newcastle and VNF3-250 in question.
 
im actually facing this same decision right now, so i would love to hear some opinions. i have some ghetto thermaltake that i want to replace.
 
Last option... stick with stock cooler. I'm wondering about performance and noise.
 
It's cooled right now by a Thermalright SLK948U; but I have a loud 92mm Panaflo. I think I'll replace the SLK with an XP-120 and get a quiet 120mm Panaflo instead. The temps won't change, I bet, but at least the noise wouldn't be a problem anymore.
 
Well let me tell you where I am at...

I am using water cooling that was previously being used on an NForce2 board running an AthlonXP Mobile @1.8v and 2400mhz. It kept it nice and cool, loaded @45c.

I am using the same exact cooling setup on my new A64 3000+ running 2.5ghz. NOW, I know my mobo had incorrect temp readings, but I flashed to a new BIOS from Chaintech that is supposedly correct now. My Vcore on the A64 is 1.55 and I am now seeing reported temps of 60c under duress. 100% stability though, so I am not sure if those temps are indeed correct as I have no external probe to measure with. However, I can feel my radiator and lines, as well as the top of the block, and it does not feel 60c (@144f)...so FWIW I am not going to worry about it as long as it stays stable. I also have MBM5 set to holler at me if it hits 65c and SHUTDOWN NOW will kick in and power the rig down if it does...


But anyway, it appears that the A64 at a similar clockspeed, even running a lower VCore, is CONSIDERABLY higher heat output than the XP chips.

I decided to stick with the stock cooler, considering I think I have enough air moving through with 3 80mm intakes, a 120mm intake, and then 2 vantec tornados exhausting with the psu (which has both an 80mm and a separate blower). I took a look at it and decided it wasn't worth a few degrees C for the money to buy a new hsf.

The stock cooling fan may be kinda small, but it's quiet and the thermal pad seems to work well.

Also it was 4am when I was building it and I had to be at work at 8, so I wasn't anxious to make more work for myself :D
 
I've got an Enermax Blue 92MM 28-34DBA @ 47-61CFM fan sitting atop a Swiftech MCX6400-V HS.

I've got 5 CoolerMaster "Neons" 25DBA @ 32.11CFM. 3 in front (2 Intake, 1 Exhaust), and 2 in rear (Both Exhaust).

CPU Idle temp is @ 32-34C
CPU Load temp is @ 38-42C

Case temp is usually @ 28-30C

Your observation seems to be absolutely correct :) I see the temp in line of P4 Northwood running at similar clock speed (PR wise) between A64 and P4 northwood.
 
I'm installing a hyper 6 tonight when I get home. I will probably make a support bracket to take the weight off the mobo that will attatch to the top of the hyper 6 and the cross brace under my PS. Maybe I will post some pics.
 
I've been happy with the stock cooler, I run ~34 idle and ~38 load at freq in sig. I can't hear the fan at all over my 8 case fans :D
 
lol, its bad, i know.

anywhay, im thinking of giveing my intellamouse 4.0 and ratpadz GS to a freind and geting a mx500 and a fUnC pad, is this a good idea?

I can GUARANTEE you that with that mobo, cpu, and OEM heatsink, you will be LUCKY to IDLE at 45-50c.....the VNF3-250 original BIOS is a lying mofo :D
