From what i've been reading in this forum is that Abit boards show temps about 10 deg's
higher then what they really are !

The Abit EQ reads that my cpu temp is around 40c idle and around 50c load

What software can i use that will give a true reading of what the temp is ?

The problem is not the software, is on the BIOS/Motherboard side of things. If you want really accurate temps, use a probe. :)

those temps sound about right if your running at stock speeds and with stock cooling.

I have a Thermalright XP-90 / 92mm Panaflo H1A Fan

I found out that stock heatsink's SUCK the hard way !!! :p

what is the ambient temperature of the room? if the room is warm enough those temps may still be normal.

The latest BIOS releases for Abit's i865/i875 motherboards have corrected the onboard temperature readouts. Of course these BIOS tweaks don't do anything except provide peace of mind, and this they do very well. I used to check my CPU temps all the time until the revisions and now I don't even worry about it.

I wonder if that bios update includes the AS8? (865 with 775 socket)

i think its only for the ic7's and is7's. and it only corrects temp readings from prescotts
