I set my 60-gig on top of my case and got up to get a sammich. I sat back down and tipped the case to look inside and my drive fell corner-down onto a tile floor. It doesn't look physically damaged on the outside, but check this out...

All my music and pictures and pr0n was on that disk... can I save it? If I can't... can I at least save the drive itself?
 
The same exact scenario more or less killed my 200GB Maxtor DM10. Of my three Maxtor drives it was the one I bought retail with 1 year warranty(never again....) and became a paper weight. It wouldn't spin up at all after that.

One of my DM10s shared the same fate. Mine will spin up but will only work for a little before BSOD only mine fell about 10 feet onto concrete. It was in a box but. At least it was a $30 black friday drive.
