Weird Wiring Question

Thanks for checking this post, the question is a little odd. When wiring my case to my new motherboard, the connector for the HD light, the Power LED, and switch wire does not match that of my motherboard. I took the individual connectors out of the black piece and connect them individually with my board, but it doesnt like that. Does anyone know of a site where I can get a connector??? It is shaped like this:

0
00
00
00

Thanks alot guys!

Uh, I think you have the wrong wires you are trying to use. That connector you illustrated is that of a USB connector - most likely for front USB ports. I have never seen the power, hdd led and reset wired together in one connector. There are too many variations on mobos from one manufacturer to another as far as the mobo header layout to make one connector that would fit all of them. Look around for another bunch of wires.

and whats the case, though it looks like its set for usb, that configuration is not usb alone (so check )

if your using a case from a store bought computr (hp, dell ...) they may have grouped the leads for the leds and buttons in the configuration that was used on their board,

so if those wires are your buttons and leds and they dont fit your mobo pinouts, then take the wires out of the plastic, and put them right on the mobo, or find more of those plastic housings and group them as you need to,
good luck

Yeah! My case is an Compaq Presario s4000nx case. That's exactly what I did: I took the wiring out of the casing. The only problem is, I'm not exactly sure in which order it should be connected to my mobo. I totally agree, Waldog. It DOES look like a USB connector, but its not, I assure you. I have an Intel D865GLC mATX board. It gives which pin is for the HD, LED, and Switch, but another section of the manual gives a completely different picture!!!! Both don't work!!! So I'm not sure what goes on what. That's why I was wondering if I could get a casing for it. Does anybody know if thats possible?

Maybe the metal tips of each individual wire are touching so its not working when I put them on one by one so the contact is not complete? I dunno... Any more suggestions? Thanks guys.

Edit: Is there a way to keep these metal tips from touching? Electrical tape??

if they are touching Id say for now just use some tape (electrical or otherwise) but i wouldnt use that as the end result, look around somplace for those plastic clips... once you know the pin outs, you can put everything in the clips (use the layout on the motherboard)

Teeny little pieces of small heat shrink tubing will work fine, even if you don't heat shrink them down tight. Rat Shack should have something that will work fine.

a 39 dollar case and call it a day before you screw your mobo to hell

jumping the pins wrong may mess up your mobo, but lightning may also shoot out of my ass...

if you hook power up to a led, well then your probably just not going to get power, your issue is them touching eachother when the pc is on, like BBS said, heat shrink will work, or you can hot glue them in the formation you need (but not to the mobo unless thats what you want)

with the heat shrink everytime you move the "little metal things" your going to have to retrace them id try to find another of those little back case things to put them in (i had a link to a company that had them but i cant find it and im at work right now, so im the only breathing person in the room) rat shack may have these things too, just take a look, and good luck
