Weird USB problem

Hello, was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for me as I'm not super savvy with electrical stuff.

I'm having an issue with my USB ports where, each time I get up from my computer, some of my USB devices will stop working. The noise indicating I've unplugged them will sound, and it will do so again when I return. It doesn't happen at all while I'm actually there. No amount of vibration on my part or anything else seems to affect it. It literally only happens when I get up and sit back down. This recently started happening after I moved into a new apartment, I suspect something is broken but this problem just seems really weird...

I had a separate issue a while back where the USB ports sometimes wouldn't work when I restarted my computer and that turned out to be a a faulty ram issue, however the symptoms I'm having now were not present then. Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this?
 
Is weird for sure. I'm kind of wondering like 1911Shootist whether this may be a static issue? Is your computer sitting on a carpet floor? Maybe foot shuffling near the case is causing a static issue with the case? If so, you may want to put a wood board under it to help isolate it from the carpet surface.

About the only other thing that comes to mind is a bad USB cable somewhere that is getting bumped or something during your get up/sit down.
 
The computer is sitting on a small wooden table supported by rubber, I do have carpeted floors though, maybe I should try using an anti-static wrist strap or something.
 
Are these devices connected to the motherboard directly (from the back), or via the top / front of your case?

Chuckles.. ground your buttocks?
 
I've tried both the case ports and the motherboard, doesn't really make a difference. Another thing about it that I forgot to mention was that, when I sit back down, the devices arent working. But if I unplug my microphone or something else, the others will start to work again. Theres nothing wrong with the microphone because it works fine on other devices and also I still have the problem regardless of the mic being plugged in or not.
 
Almost sounds as if you have a short on the backside of your motherboard. I don't know what model you have, but that's a bit curious, having issues with your microphone. The other issue is something may be sharing IRQ / resources.. I have not had to even utter those lovely words since W7..

What OS are you running?
What are your hardware specs?
 
The motherboard is an MSI Z77A-G45. Also I am using windows 7. I have 8 mb of ram (geil enhanced corsa ddr3), asus geforce 660 ti gfx card, and a cougar 1000CMX power supply.
 
I once had a Sony FW900 CRT monitor; eventually it started blinking out, but only when I tapped my foot on a certain place on the floor about 10 feet away. Much wiggling and refastening of cables ensued, to no avail and lots of head-scratching. Called it voodoo magic, gave it away to my brother-in-law. Maybe a board in the floor flexes just so against a board in the wall which pushes just so against a cable... no, that's ridiculous.
