Weird Sound issue

I have an PCI X-Fi Xtreme Gamer sound card. I recently picked up a speed-link 5.1 headset. It is fantastic! I'm having a issue that is quite annoying though. When I'm listening to anything, after a completly random amount of time, all the channels except the rears and left kick off. Now, if I go into the Creative Audio Control Panel and switch modes from Gaming to any other, it fixes the issue. I can go back to Gaming mode, and it is fixed there as well.

WTF is going on?
