Weird Mobility 7500 behaviour

Hi all

I'm really struggling to find an explanation for this. I am currently using a Dell Latitude C540 (Celeron 1.7, 256mb, 32mb Mobility Radeon)... it's always scored quite low on 3Dmark2001SE (around 1700). It was annoying, but I put up with it.

Then on Saturday I booted up, and it was absolutely screaming in terms of 3D performance! NFS: Underground was not only playable, it was enjoyable! After obviously playing it for ages, turning up the settings to make use of this newly-found speed, I re-ran 3Dmark2001se, and I got 3699! What's weird is I saw parts of the test I've never seen before (on the something sprite one I saw one horse before, viewed from above and behind, but that time I saw it from at least 3 or 4 different angles).

With subsequent boots it's gone back to normal I just can't figure out what was different that day.

I hope you guys can shed some light on this: I'd love to get back that blazing performance (for me anyway, I know these scores are pitiful but I'm cash-strapped)

Here's the setup:
XP Home SP1
Radeon (Omega) Drivers 2.5.44
ATI Radeon Mobility 7500, 32mb, AGP4x, OC'd to CPU=297mhz, memory 198.35mhz

I'd love to hear your ideas - also reply if you need more details.

Thanks in advance

Dylan
