Weird issue - can browse internet but all other apps report no internet connectivity!

I can browse the internet with firefox and IE7, and I can download and upload using uTorrent, but when I try to run several games (World of WarCraft, Enemy Territory, Rainbow 6) I am clearly not getting a connection because with WOW the news server fails to load and then when I enter the game I cannot log in to my account. With ET and RS I simply cannot view ANY multiplayer games open, even though I know there must be hundreds. When I try to go to the iTunes store in iTunes, I get a message saying the network connection was refused! I cannot figure this out can anyone help? What is going on? I have the Windows firewall disabled, and I have ZoneAlarm installed but I shut it down and it did not make any difference, and it has been installed for months and never caused this problem before.
