weird i7 oc?

I got my system set up

i7/asus p6t/corsair 1600 3GB/pc power & cooling 750 silencer/ati 4870/2xraptors raid 0

I overclocked to 4.02 changing all the settings per all the i7 oc guids on asus -

I did a prime 95 for 2 hours then the intelstresstest linpack for 20 attempts

My cpu never went over 65 c with my Scythe Mugen 2 installed.

Then.... last night I start playing l4d and the thing crashes after an hour. I reboot try to run prime and it crashes right away again,,

?? what the hell?
 
Sounds like you burnt the resistors out on your chip and your overclock will start to decrease even more every day until eventually it cant even hold the stock clock. Man you messed up big time homie, I bet you set that VTT too high. Man I really feel for you, you killed it damn it, look what you did! Do you have any remorse for the beast you single handidly destroyed?

On a true note, it appears your overclock is no longer stable. and you will need to play with it a bit more in an attempt to stabilize.
 
Same thing happened. I thought my OC was stable until starting to play L4D and then boom it owuld die. Prime95 would then also die after 15 secs of running.

Have to start lowing the OC or raise the voltages. Mind you, my 3.7OC was fine and dandy. If I didn't enjoy L4D so much I wouldn't have cared because I was able to play any other game for hours on end and do everything else I wanted on the machine without it failing.
 
yah that is what happens I can play City of Heroes all day but it was left 4 dead that crashed it :)

guess I will dial it back a bit.
 
weird issues #2 - okay so today again passing stress tests at 4.0 but now my temps are hitting 80C (via asus probe) never hit that before?? anyhow I dialed it down to 3.8 see how that does.
