weird fan problem

I've had a weird problem come up since i threw in two more fans today to cool down the case/proc a bit...according to asus probe, my cpu or case fan (never both, just one at a time) will dip down to like 400rpm for about 5 seconds...i guess i wouldn't think of it as a bad thing, but annoying for the probe to come up with the alarm and all...j/w if it was ok or a sign that somethings wrong, like taxing the PSU or the fans starting to crap out (i'd hope not, the oldest fan in here is about 2.5 months old)

also wondering what prog is more reliable as far as temps/rpms/voltage is concerned, MBM 5 or asus probe?
 
Neither, they're both inaccurate. If I had to use one tho, I do like Speedfan for temp and RPM measurement, and I like my multimeter for voltage measurement ;)

Also, I think you can turn the alarm off
 
k, well i need a new psu anyways, and i have a 45watt axp-mobile on its way from newegg, so i should be fine in a few days. there really won't be any bad things happening from the cpu fan dipping down for 3-4 seconds every 45-60 minutes or so will there?

Did you actually see the fan in question slow down? I would want to see it with my own eyes/measure it with a DMM before even considering trusting (cheap) onboard sensors and (potentially buggy) software.

But to answer your question, no, it wouldn't hurt too much, provided the airflow through the case is halfway decent.
 
Asus Probe is a piece of crap, it always did that to me. Its especially annoying when it goes off in the middle of the night. I'm pretty sure it's just the program and the fan really isn't slowing down.
 
yeah, MBM5 seems to be a bit closer to whatever the actual speeds are. Turns out my CPU fan header is going downhill, i just switched the cpu and an exhaust fan and now both are working just fine
