In both Far Cry and Doom 3 I get random pausing/choppyness/artifacting/tearing (I'm not sure what the differences are but it basically skips just slightly and pixelates lightly towards the top of the screen). Does it all all settings high or low, doesn't seem to matter. I tried the latest chipset, RMAing the card but got same results, BIOS flash, 61.77 NV Drivers, tried OCing the card and CPU, tried setting them to default clocks, tried dedicating a 12v rail to the card, driver cleaner in safe mode, etc. and I'm still getting this crap which makes the gameplay really unfavorable.

Abit IC7-G Mobo
1GB Corsair PC3200 (2x512)
eVGA 6800GT
SB Audigy2
NEC CD-RW/DVD-RW Combo drive
74GB WD 7200 RPM HD
Antec 380w TruePower PS
Windows XP Pro SP1

I'm taking any and all suggestions at this point because I'm completely out of ideas here and all I want to do is enjoy the games I built this stupid rig for...

Thanks :(

do have far cry patched? do you have a new installation of windows? you could try a new set of drivers? 65.62s are great

Far Cry is patched with 1.1. It's much worse in Far Cry than D3 actually.

Did a reformat and reinstall about 2 weeks ago.

Gonna try the Fast Writes thing and maybe some new drivers. thx

Tried switching off AGP Fast Writes... but made no difference.

I'm not sure about rolling back to an earlier set of drivers as I haven't heard of any issues with the 61.77 ones that would cause these issues. eVGA doesn't even have the 65.xx ones listed, only the 61.xx ones.

PSU is only 2 weeks old and I'm not running that much off of it as you can see. Is there anyway to tell if it's bad or not without just buying a new one?

I think the AGP slot is good as I didn't get this problem with my 9600XT in there. MB is also 2 weeks old.

Sometimes the problem isn't too bad, but then it just starts chopping like hell when firing a gun or moving in and out of rooms in Far Cry making it almost unplayable.

I hope you used drivercleaner and completely removed the ATI software before trying to use the 6800GT. Better yet, I would format and load a fresh OS before looking at the hardware.

I ran driver cleaner twice in safe mode. I'm trying to avoid doing yet another reformat if at all possible since it isn't a 3 hour job to get all the stuff I need loaded on this machine again.

you are not alone. i'm having many of the same issues, choppy D3 ect. I still get 10k+ 3DMark scores but in actual gaming my card sucks. evga 6800GT. I have done everything suggested here and in many other boards with no results. my GF4 ti4680 ran D3 better than this card does.

Yeah I'm getting 10K+ scores in PCMark03 and graphics looks great but in game play is annoying as hell. This is starting to drive me crazy. You'd think for 400+ bucks you'd get something that doesn't drive you out of your mind to get working right.
