A Swedish company that is developing a web-based operating system is a lot of support from some big names in the industry. The web-based OS will be available for $5 - $10 a year or in a free ad supported version.

Xcerion has developed an OS that works from within a browser, which developers can use to build Web-based versions of existing software or new applications quickly and without having to build separate versions for different computer OSes, he said. Users can choose to either run ad-supported versions of the applications for free, or pay a small yearly fee-- about $5 or $10 per year-- to run them is ad-free, Arthursson said.

I could see using this to demo software before a purchase, but for most applications, if I pay for it, I want it to run natively.

What good is an OS where you first need an OS to run a browser?

Why not call it an application suite.

Think outside the box here a little. Who said you need an OS to run the web based OS? Maybe they could develop a different type of system than has been seen in the past. Just a thought...

Looks like a move back to large scale use of mainframes and dumb terminals, not that's a bad thing per se. I'd be interested to try it out.

The word "browser" clues me into thinking this just isnt some OS over interent that is PXE booted. "Browser" makes me think of opera, firefox, or IE...

You mean like mainframes and dumb terminals?

To deliver multimedia content they are going to need something significant on the client side.

This seems like a box with in a box concept.
