Hello everyone

I need more space almost filled up my 36GB Raptor ( most of you will be shocked with how I can get away with 1 HDD but it has everything I need on it ) and I want to get some more space for future use.....So I was wondering If I got the new 74GB Raptor with 16MB Cache how much faster would it be then my 36GB raptor that I orderd back in 2004 so it one of those older series......I just use my pc for normal tasks such as internet music light gaming and normal applications......Depending on how much faster the new raptors are and how much it would speed up my system I would replace my 36GB one...On the other hand if they are not that much faster I may just got for the segate 7200.10 320GB which is 60$ cheaper and has twice the storage......
 
Just an idea.. but what I do is have one 74gb raptor, then keep all my random junk on a seperate hard drive. Keep all you main games and stuff that need fast access on the raptor, then put mp3's, vids, etc on the spare hard drive.
 
I used to own one of the 74gb 8mb cache raptors, and upgraded to one of the seagate 7200.10's that you're talking about, and I really cannot tell the difference. I'd reccomend it highly.
 
Since you said you use it for normal applications the Seagate drive is probably a better idea. The new 16MB Raptors are pretty impressive but you should have a need for the extra speed to give up that much storage. You could always get a Raptor and get another drive for storage but it sounds like you want to keep it to 1 HDD.

I have both a Raptor (8mb cache) and a 7200.10 and I cant tell the difference in terms of data transfer speeds. On the other hand, Windows does tend to start up faster on the Raptor.
 
And that's the old 74GB Raptor, hehe. These new 16mb ones friggin' rock.
 
How are the 74 gig raptors when it comes to noise?

I'd like to get a quieter hd, but I have a thing with speed.

My 16MB sounds like a coffee grinder when it's really thrashing, frankly, but the Centurion 5 case is pretty much open in the front, so your case might mask it better.
 
yeah theyre pretty loud but i dont care i like the speed. its the only thing i hear from my pc. its watercooled though. when i was on air, it mixed in with everything :)
 
My 2 cases I have them in are the P180B and SOLO. Both have nice silicon mounts. I barely hear 'em. My DELL work box has 2 of them mounted to metal and I can hear them grinding away. Get a good case and be done.
