ok.. so my sister's boyfriend had a hard drive in his freezer one time when i visited her. he said that it was dying and that he read online that you could freeze a hard drive and then it would give you some time to get your data off..

later on i asked him about it, and he said it worked.

so now.. i am sitting here with a 20gb WD drive. Protege WD200EB to be exact.
i think it has the click of death.. its like it doesn't spin up all the way and then tries to move the arm and can't or something..

so, should i freeze it? i already hit it with metal objects on the edge.. i have succesffuly unfrozen hard drives with this method in the past.

who has some links? or who has done this before?

The freezer trick does work...sometimes. It's not a guarantee. When you say you hit your drive on the edge, do you mean you hit it with a hammer or knocking it against the wall and such? If you hit the drive, you could bend the case to where it touches the platters, effectively making your drive a paper weight.
