WCG Linux versus Windows Speed

Hello everyone, just curious if anyone had notice a difference in speed between the BOINC client on Linux x64 and Windows x64?

It seems like my Linux box is producing a much higher WU count and point count per day on the World Community Grid. They are running on the exact same configuration of machine, from RAM, to motherboard, to BIOS, to processors, to hard drive, etc.

Only difference between them is that the Linux x64 client is version 6.2.28, and the Windows x64 client is 6.6.20.

wouldnt surprise me.. everything DC wise is better on linux then winblows..

Would it be possible that the benchmarks are accurate? The Linux client says it gets about 11,000 Integer MIPS, whereas the Windows client says it gets only about 8,000 Integer MIPS.

Could there really be that big of a difference just because of an OS difference?
 
its possible.. but id say no.. its most likely a client glitch.. but your WU points are based on that number which is why you are getting such high points per WU..

i know the numbers are incorrect on the phenom II's as well(or the clients just incorrectly configured for phenom II processors).. on avg i get 20 points over whats requested for every work unit no matter what project im running unless they use a set number per WU like SHA-1 does..
 
So how do I fix that? Because I think I've figured out that the point difference is exactly the same amount higher as the difference in MIPS.
 
id say stick with linux.. or run a VM with linux with the boinc client running.. if you are using a quad core.. try to find a vm client that supports more then 2 cores.. otherwise if you use something like vmware player you have to run 2 vm instances to use all 4 cores..
 
Ok, what VM Client supports more then 2 cores? It's actually a 8 core system, Dual Quad Core Xeons.

Only one that I know of it ESX, but even then its only 4.
Just run vmware server, and set up four instances. Thats what I do with FAH, and with using vmware server its all run in the background, and starts and stops automagically with the host.
 
you could use vmware player and just stick a shortcut in the starup folder. you can pick up a vmwareappliance with linux pre-installed. i did that to run F@h Linux SMP. works really well.
