watercooling problems

I recently bought water cooling (storm (cpu block), MCR-220 (rad), MCW-55 (gpu block), MCRES-525 (res), MCP-655 (pump), and 7/16" masterkleer tubing).

It's all installed and stuff, and I'm leak testing. I did the paper clip trick to start just the pump and it kind of sputtered, pumped a bit of fluid out of somewhere, and I stopeed it. I cleaned up a bit and moved the only two clips I have to the outlet on the pump (where I think it came from) and tried it again. Now whenever I start it the pump makes noise but doesn't pump anything. Could it be a block in the tubes somewhere?

I have the pump up on the side of my case right below the psu with the inlet barb pointing straight down and the outlet pointing outward (away from the mobo). This is because my GTX doesn't leave any space open on the floor of my case except where teh HDD case is and I can't remove that (or I don't want to) because I only have 2 3 1/2" drives and one of them has a floppy in it but I have 2 hard drives.

My case is the Gigabyte 3d Aurora.

Anyone have any ideas?
 
Got any air in the loop? If so get rid of it as most pumps will not pump dry. Try moving your box in different directions to eliminate the air into the reservoir or T-line.

The inlet facing downward is the worst possible way to install any pump. You're going to have to at least set it in the normal fashion till you get the system filled. There's more than likely a air blockage in the pump now due to it's mounting postion, set it flat, fill the system with the pump off till you see water on the inlet and outlet sides of the pump and you should be good to go................ :cool:
 
i poured my fluid into the res and it flowed all through the pump. There aren't any major air gaps visible. I knew that the pump wasn't supposed to run dry and I didn't start it until I saw the tube leading to the pump inlet was about as full as it needed to be.

Thanks for the tip. I thought that it was a pretty bad position, but that was my only choice since there is nowhere to lay it flat. I don't really trust the neoprene pad supplied to hold it completely either. I have the back of the base hooked under a psu rail and the other end resting on the motherboard tray. This way it can't fall outward b/c the metal bar holds it up.

I'll try righting it now and get back to you.
 
ok, bad stuff happened. I put my pump on the ground and started it up and it started moving the water, not to mention a large air bubble went into the outlet tube.

It was apparantly my pump's position that was stopping it from flowing, but my pump definitely now has a leak.

i had a lot of fluid escape from somewhere on the pump, but it definitely wasn't the tubing. It was from somewhere on the circular thingy i'm pretty sure.
 
Try tightening the retaining ring, just hand tight should be enough. If it still leaks, drain the fluid and then remove the ring and pump motor and check for damage on the Big "O" ring.
 
ok its working now. I am now on my watercooled computer! Works great.
 
yea i think the pump housing was just unscrewed a little. Now I just need to fix my computer so it will OC....
