watercooling issues and things

Ok, I have asked around and pm'ed and stuff, but I have a few questions to water-cooling that has come up in my trying my hand at watercooling

First off here is what I am using:

AquaXtreme 50Z-DC12
1/2" everything
Swiftech MCRES-Micro Hi-Flo Reservoir
Danger Den Maze4 Acetyl GPU Water Block
Danger Den Maze4 A64 CPU Water Block
BI Xtreme II Dual 120mm PC Radiator

However there are a few things I am not sure about:

When I filled my system, I followed all the guidelines and made sure I got all the bubbles out and everything, used distilled water, yadda, yadda, yadda. But there seems to be some sort of metallic flakes in the water when I first filled and started the pump. Is this normal? Should I bleed and flush to get out everything or has anyone seen this before and it’s been ok?



Which leads me to my next problem, how do I bleed and flush a system without killing my pump? Any pointers here would be great!



Also, does anyone recommend any additive to the water to make my system run better or help the pump and or retard corrosion? I don’t want any UV stuff or anything like that, but I would like to know if there is anything that would still keep the water clear, but help a bit.



And I think that is it. I am leak testing now, but if I have to flush and bleed, I would like to know before I get all crazy! Thanks everyone!
 
Ok I think I can help some.

If there are in fact metal flakes in the system then I would flush it out and start over, as this would likely wear on the plastic pieces in the pump or possibly collect in the rad.

Was this stuff new? Maybe this stuff wasnt flush from the factory, and it could have come from the rad. The first setup I did was with a heatercore brand new from autozone and little did I know it had sand in it from when it was made.

What I do when I drain and fill a system is this.
Create a low spot in the system, like pull a block down below the outside of the case and disconnect the hose and drain as much as you can out. Because you dont have a res I would get a funnel to fit on you fill hole and add as much water as you can and fill up the funnel for some reserve. Run the pump until the funnel is close to empty or you realize you have enough fluid. If the pump runs for a second without water its not going to hurt it. As far as bleeding just leave the fill cap off for a while and let it run.

I dont know of any clear lubricant type additives, however, to prevent bacteria and algae from growing you can add some ant-fugal solution found at pet store for aquariums. I dont know how long it will last not running some sort of anti corrosion additive.
