you never have to. water wetter or an equivalent makes sure nothing grows in it.

I change my water about every 4 months, mostly because the water gets dirty from dust build up in the tube in the water and the little bit of corrosion that happens within the system, the latter not really doing much. I also clean out my block once every couple changes to make sure its still in good order. But of course, you dont really have to do either of these, but you should, just to make sure.

Same as above. Draining once or twice a year is reasonable, but it goes with the maintenance-and-tinker scheme of things. I'm not sure how many people in here can leave a modded rig just happily running without wanting to play with it and improving it, making sure it stays happy, etc.

There's usually some kind of tiny bit of buildup in there and it doesn't hurt to drain it all, make sure everything is in order, take a look at the liquid in a nice clear container under a good light, and see what's been going on in there.

If you do it more often than once or twice a year, it helps to have a good cheap supply of coolant, distilled water, even tubing (hey you never know.. inspect it!).. For example, I have a gallon of Prestone propylene glycol based coolant ready for whenever I need it, vs. the itty bitty 2 oz bottles they sell online, and it cost me just about the same amount.

If you do plan to tinker a lot, make sure you have found cheap LOCAL sources for tubing and all this other stuff that you'll need for whenever you do maintenance. High quality tubing for very low per-foot rates can be easier to find than you think -- this stuff is used in all sorts of applications. Check out hardware and automotive stores for all the basics.

what water+ addatives and proportions do you advise for longest lasting setup, ?

Just grab Swiftech's new Hydrx solution, it has everything you need and it's cheap. Otherwise you could just add around 5-10% anti-freeze.

Just use whatever ratio is on the instructions. Add a drop or two of betadine or other algae/crawly killer and you should be good to go for a long-lasting setup, but i agree with the above guys, you might want to change it out after a while, but it's not ABSOLUTELY necessary

Yea I change mine about ever 6 months or so, The water and antifreeze or water wetter looses some if its sting after awhile... Atleast once a year if nothing else.
