Water-block advice (CPU & GPU)

I'm in the process of building a water cooling setup. I have already purchased the following:

Laing DDC-2 (18W) + Alphacool top + Alphacool res
Black Ice Micro II (This is going in a HTPC case with limited room)

I have decided to stick with my current hardware and need to pick out water blocks for my CPU and GPU.

CPU: Opteron 165
GPU: Radeon X1900XT

For the CPU block, I'm thinking the Swiftech Apogee. I'm also wondering why their website shows the Apogee outperforming the Storm, but the Storm is more expensive? Is the Storm better for this pump? (I've found conflicting opinions on this and am looking for some proof one way or the other) I'd like a universal solution so that if I do upgrade to a Core 2 Duo in the future, I am still able to use the same CPU block.

I'm not really sure on the GPU block. I'd like to keep it cheap in case I upgrade my video card next year and the block isn't compatible (which it likely won't be). Maybe a Maze 5?

Currently I'm thinking Apogee + Maze5. My budget is about $100, but I could go up a bit on this.

Edit: Also, what are those fittings I see people using that have the tubes on the inside of the fitting instead of the outside?
 
your selection for the cpu & gpu look fine, but that radiator you chose looks suspect.

Those fittings you speak of are called quick connect and instant tube fittings, the tubing is pushed inside the fitting as far as it will go.
i don't care for em. (dangerious) :(

i prefer the full flow fittings with worm drive hose clamps. ;)

The Storm waterblock is meant for high flow systems (1/2" fittings, high flow pump). At lower flow speeds, its just an average block.... but start pushing more flow through it, and its one of if not the best perfroming block on the market.

As far as being able to use your waterblock on a different CPU platform.... most blocks come with the hardware and retention plates needed to fit all the popular CPU platforms. If a new CPU platform is introduced, they'll all scramble to make an adapter kit that will allow you to use your block on it (for a fee of course).
 
i don't think people fully realize the difference in temps or overclockability between blocks.. the temp difference between a TDX/Other and Storm are going to very small and probably won't make any difference in your overclock especially if you leave the ihs on .. and that goes double for the lack of difference you'll see between gpu blocks ...

the bottom line is that price, build quality, and ease of ownership are my highest priorities when selecting blocks...
