Watch Dogs AMD & NVIDIA GPU Performance Preview @ [H]

Overclocked just the Hynix memory on my reference R9 290 from 1250 to 1300 and that cured all stuttering while driving. Figured that it might help someone else that is stuttering. Found out about it in the PC Games subforum's Watch Dogs thread. :)

Wow, I wonder if they fixed stuttering at ultra settings on 3GB cards?

EDIT: who am I kidding? Of course they didn't!

"Ubisoft warned that "some players might still experience some stuttering while playing with 'Ultra Textures' settings on.""

"Some players" meaning people with 3GB VRAM or less - this includes GeForce 780Ti users. Watch_dogs is officially one of the most horribly optimized games ever and one of the worst PC ports ever.

I never patched mine with the newest "official" patch but instead got the patch that made the game look like it did a e3 and cleared up some stuttering also enabling adaptive vsync helped on my 780. But I'm really disappointed I had went to my uncles house and played it on a ps4 and it was even worse then the PC. Same with black flag I'm not touching another ubisoft game till last gen consoles are cut at least.

GOOD NEWS EVERYONE!

http://www.dsogaming.com/news/assas...-pc-versions-to-be-developed-by-ubisoft-kiev/

PC versions of AC Unity and FC4 are being developed by Ubisoft Kiev, the tech-wizards that brought us perfectly optimized PC versions of ACIII, AC Black Flag, Ghost Recon Future Solder, and Splinter Cell Conviction...

Great news indeed.
I guess that means we can look forward to the cinematic frame rate cap of 62 FPS. I'm so happy Ubisoft is looking out for us PC gamers who have no idea what we want or what we're talking about.

Im pretty sure Black Flag was done by montreal, as my buddy designed Havana and hes in Montreal, so something is a little off with that article.

According to the article, Ubisoft Kiev was responsible for porting the game to PC, not for designing it from scratch.

Doesn't sound good. AssCreed 4 was terribly optimized, and Ghost Recon FS wasn't great either. Don't recall any issues with Conviction aside from the game being crappy in general.

Far Cry 3 ran great for its looks, and I hope FC4 does as well. It does use the same engine so there is hope...

Didn't think of that, i was under the impression they were developed in tandem.

I do not know the specifics, but I can imagine that one team in one region was designing and developing the assets (such as modelling Havana, as you said) and another team was developing the engine for a target platform, using the graphical resources created by another team. This way your friend could model Havana in Montreal, and another team could develop a PC version in Kiev.

I played Conviction on GTX670 some time ago. There were completely unexplicable drops of framerate into 30-40s in closed spaces. On a card that is considerably more powerful than the cards that were on the market when Conviction was released. At the time of release even the fastest cards available were not able to hit 60fps in 1080p on max settings, as evidenced here:
http://www.techspot.com/article/277-splinter-cell-conviction-performance/page4.html (the game had no support for SLI/Crossfire on release)

Even the mighty Radeon HD 5870 and GeForce GTX 480 graphics cards were limited to less than 50fps on average.

I can bet dollars to doughnuts that if I were to run this game on my 780Ti, the drops will still be there.

My 980 actually plays this game rather well, and the stuttering that plagued the game on my 680 (even at low details) is seemingly gone.
After having this game for a few months, I can finally play it without feeling like I'm in an earthquake every time I get into a car.

I have a 650 Ti and a R9 270, And both cards will actually play the game fine on the 2GB texture settings. And the 650 Ti is a 1GB card and the 270 is a 2GB card. So the claim they make on the V-Ram needed for certain graphic settings is just BS, They just put the 1GB / 2GB and 3GB in the settings to try and explain away their bad code! Everyone can clearly see this game is not anything special at all, GTA 4 looks better. We are letting these companies almost get away with murder now! It is time people start at'least reacting.

Another thing I was able to confirm with the 650 Ti vs the R9 270 in this game was for some reason the AMD card's textures looked much much better. I know the R9 270 is a stronger card that can use higher AAA settings, So I used the exact same settings with the 650 Ti and the R9 270, I used High on textures and medium on display. And I also used medium/medium too just in-case the 1GB/2GB setting was possibly legit, And I of'course also used the exact same AAA settings. But still the AMD card for some reason looked much much better. It was very noticeable too! I used to think Nvidia had better textures than AMD, But I guess I was wrong.

You ran the in-game settings similarly, but what about the driver control panel settings? The default settings on NVIDIA cards use filtering optimizations to improve performance. I believe this is the "Quality" setting. You want to change it to "High Quality," which disables filtering optimizations for best image quality.

this game runs like a crap on my Haswell-E + GTX980 SLI, this means that it is a crap.

The most recent patch (v1.06) broke SLI. I can confirm it does indeed run much smoother with a single card (especially driving) as Ubisoft claims, but goddammn did it break SLI bad.

4 months later and Ubi$hit still can't get it right. That's sad.

The game was broken initially. I think nvidia went above and beyond to tweak things and get a working SLi profile with the shitty coding that now when Ubi comes up and redoes things the way it should have been initially the SLi profile that was created on the shitty coding does not work now. I hope nvidia fixes the profile soon. Make sure you put a bug report in. The game in its current state deserves a SLi profile not the way it was before.

on my system cards works at >= 90% so I think that the SLI works as it should.

Hmm, I don't play/own the game. I was kinda going off what N=1 said in his post. Not sure why after installing the latest patch 2 people are reporting different results but such is computer hardware.

Both of my cards are at >90% too and run full boost, but the benefit from that extra card simply is not there. Frames are much lower than what they should be, and scaling (if any) appears to be less than 20%. I'm not the only one affected btw.

Once I went back to patch v1.05 through the dll hack, the SLI issues were gone. Used same driver (344.11) throughout. Like I said, single card does indeed work much better, but kinda useless if SLI is borked.

I will think twice before buying games like this next time.
Unity will not have my money until I know that it scale well on SLI.

I haven't bought WatchDogs but was planning to. Looks like I stayed away with good reason. Maybe later?

I also was on the same boycott as you but managed to call newegg and get both ACU and FarCry 4 for free via the Pick your path promo even though I bought them on Launch day. Newegg did me very good this time. :)
