Warez and You!

The old hardforum had a sticky entitled "Warez and You!". I believe Ice Czar posted an excerpt from it. I have not seen it on this new fangled hard forum and I think it should return to avoid future injustices and accusations like the ones that have been made to myself. The current rules do not make any specific outlines for the discussion of warez, neither does it provide a specific ban of all discussions regarding warez period even if it is what the mods and admins at hardforum would call legitimate discussion.

Definitions of WAREZ on the Web:
Widely used to denote cracked or pirate versions of commercial software. In other words, illegal pirated software. (google search "define: warez" w/o quotes)

Warez falls under the catagory of illegal stuff and should not be mentioned.

Let me break it down for you.

"Moral Dilemma: is it okay, in your opinion, to download Doom 3 before its release, if you already have a fully-paid preorder?" I don't want to argue this, but the thread content is okay until someone posts....

"I already downloaded it, look at this screenshot." Edited out by moderator, put on the watch-list. It's like going up to a police officer and saying that you mugged an old lady: you aren't going to get any sympathy (you don't deserve it, either).

"Surround Sound in Doom 3 isn't working" is okay, "I just got Doom 3 off BT, and the sound doesn't work" is not. Noticing a pattern?

The Warez -> Freeware conversion thread is OK, because no one ever says they downloaded an illegal copy. A lot of people say "I've been warez-free for 3 months," insinuating that prior to that they used illegal software. However, because they have changed, it's not a problem, and it serves as a notice to everyone still using pirated software to go legit.

You talk about warez in the third person, most people won't have a problem. If you talk about yourself doing it, or a friend doing it, in the present tense, I fully support banning your ass and stringing it up from the highest pole.

You just admitted defeat by digressing from your original statement, and made a personal attack based on something as artificial as join date. Sorry to disappoint you, but I am your senior, having re-registered after an inactivity purge. This thread is no longer on-topic and needs to be locked.

Seconded. This thread doesn't need rehashing, the rules are clear enough.

In closing, if the origins of the program you are having problems with is questionable, don't tell us about it. Don't discuss hunting people down and killing them, don't say that you smoke marijuana, that you support the KKK, etc. etc. and you won't have any problems whatsoever with Rule Number Eighteen. It's more simple than most.

If I had admitted defeat I would have said some thing like "You know, you guys are right". My beliefs are unchanged. M11, I made no personal attacks you are a slanderer. If you later decide you have indeed wronged me, I will accept your apology. Until then you are my enemy. I was informed quite a few posts back about how not to admit to or to post links to or even say "I'm gonna go out and DL some warez". Since that time of enlightenment I have not broken any of the rules. So, at this point since your thrashings are unjust I accuse you of talking out of your ass.
