I'm ready to order a LCD monitor. The Viewsonic VX924 just came out and the Dell 2005fpw has a 40% off coupon. I've got it down the these two LCDs. I have been reading some reviews about the VX924 and its not all that we had hoped for. I'm not sure which to get, I'll be using the monitor of gaming and web browsing. I do not watch DVDs on here, I do watch some racing videos though, that I download. I'm leaning more towards the 2005fpw now. Most of the newer games have widescreen support which is good. Any suggestions? :cool:
 
Which type of games do you mostly play?

It seems like a waste of widescreen if you're not going to watch DVD's on it. I would go with the VX924 for gaming.

my 2005fpw play games fine but it could use a faster response time like 11ms instead of 16

that is from dell's website.. it is a 12ms not 16ms..
 
get the dell, i have one and only have 1 dead pixel but its not even noticable even when im trying to look for it, and in games you cant see it at all. i get little to absolutely no ghosting :D
 
Still I say for you usage, the VX924 is better suited.

OR the VP191b (viewsonic)

12ms is grey-to-grey. 16ms is standard black-to-white response time.
 
My experiences -

I recently purchased the 2005FPW, and had been using a Viewsonic GS815 (21" Graphic Series) for along time.
I received mine in about 5 days from order date, which was surprisingly fast since they estimated several week wait.
I opened it up, plugged it in and booted my computer up.
Immidiately I noticed bright corners on the black boot screen.
At first I didn't think anything of it, thought it was possibly because it wasn't warmed up.
This was my first LCD, I didn't have any experience with them previously.
Got into windows and tried out some games. I have to say its odd coming from CRT.
In a steady moving enviroment (not necessarily fast) there is very slight blur, but after playing for a few days you don't even notice it at all, so this was not a big deal. (And I was one of those that was very worried about seeing blur/ghosting going to LCD)
While I was playing one of my games, I went into a dark area of a map and I noticed these bright corners again!
This time I was annoyed, so I did some research. Found that the problem with these monitors to be very common.
I did get one with zero dead pixels, and was happy about that but I just couldn't get over the backlight leakage I was getting.
So I requested a replacement. I got a replacement in about 4-5 days from requesting one. I plugged it all in and started it up.
Zero dead pixels again, but this time 2 of my 4 corners were bleeding light again.
Yes this replacement was better, but its still very annoying to me.. I know I'm probably being way to picky but my brother has one of those cheap hyundai 8ms monitors, and he has 0 backlight bleeding what so ever, its perfect.
I returned the original one and I believe I am going to get a refund and do some more waiting. I did love the widescreen aspect ratio. but I can't live with the backlight leakage myself, I'm to picky.
I plugged my CRT back in and WOW how ugly it is!
After using the 2005FPW for a week and packing it back up, getting a new LCD is now a must.

Here is a photo so you know what I mean.. this photo is of both monitors (original on the right) and with "Blank Screensaver" started. Taking pictures of the LCD when its dark is hard, but this gives a pretty good representation of what I was having, except the colors are even when looking at it with the naked eye.

I've decided to go with the VX924, it should arrive tomorrow. :D One of the reasons I did not go with the 2005fpw is because of the leakage problem, it seems there are way to many people on here having probs with it. Also, I've read Toms review of the VX924, just to see what he had to say. I don't rely on Tomshardware for information, I've noticed hes been biased in the past and favors some brands over others.

Thazul - Thanks for the reply. That is one of the reason I went with the other monitor.

I'll have pics and I'll let everyone know what I think about it when it gets here. ;)

I'd like to see what you think of the Viewsonic. I was eyeing that one myself.
