I experienced first hand the issue mentioned in the uber thread. I shut down my pc for some internal cleaning and when I hooked everything back up: nothing. I tried 2 different nVidia cards and nothing came up, so I moved the monitor to my other PC with an ATI card in it. It came back up. Plugged it back into my main PC and it was fine.

Now I know about the DVI recovery tool and such, I'm wondering though in future, is there a way to prevent this from occuring? I'd hate to keep running the recovery tool everytime I shut off my PC and disconnect something. Has there been any other mention of a more permanent solution to this? Is DVI recovery a permanent solution to this?

I experienced this problem too.

I keep the boot CD of the DVI Recover handy in case it happens again - u never know.

Mine broke completely. Shutting down and disconnecting, DVI recovery, connecting it to an ATI-based computer... nothing worked. It doesn't make any sense, and I'm in the process of RMAing it right now.

This monitor bothers me quite a bit.

I have DVI recovery handy on a ISO CD now, but not to fault Viewsonic, this solution actually came from Dell owners who had the problem first...

honestly, I think its a nVidia issue specifically. I'm going to cross my fingers and hope that shutting off the monitor first then powering down the PC will keep it from "sleeping" permanently...

I'm fairly certain this issue is related to Nvidia video cards. I had it happen one time when I was using a system with a 6800GT. Since then I've rebuilt with an X1800XT. I have never had an issue with it since. Had my VX2025wm for about 6 weeks now. So if it wasn't the Nvidia card what was it?

I do currently have a shuttle box with a 6800GS in it, but it is connected via VGA to the Viewsonic so I don't worry about it.

I can't tell you how sad that makes me. My 6800 GS is serving me well enough, and if I have to look forward to my 2025 breaking again... frick. Not that I have anything against ATI, but I'd rather like to not be forced to buy a new videocard for fear that my $350 monitor might get killed again.

nVidia, I'm disappointed.

Well, unless it is broken completely, which I believe to be my case.

However, if you would be so kind, would you possibly post the link to the site where you got the DVI recovery files? I think I got the right thing, but I'd rather like to be sure.

Hmm, looks like the same thing. I'm gonna try it one more time... here's hoping it works. Thanks for the link.

i got an x700 PRO, ihave turned on and off the system and taken off the monitor about 8 times since getting the dell system on saturday - no issues yet, prior i had the LCD on my laptop ati mobility radeon.

No luck, again. I can't imagine what the problem is. This thing just completely refuses to recieve a signal. Gah...

You need to make sure that the monitor is connected with the DVI cable.

Do a dry run first with a standard D-Sub/VGA cable. You'll get an error of some kind but that's normal.

Then repeat with just the DVI cable attached. You obviously won't be able to see anything. Wait a few mintutes then reboot.

I just tried it with a dry run first, still no success. I can't imagine what could be wrong... it was working so well up until a couple of days ago when I uninstalled (and subsequently reinstalled, changed, reformatted, etc.) some nVidia videocard drivers.

I'm willing to try any more suggestions. Thanks for the help, LordBritish. This is annoying as all heck. :(

did you install the viewsonic drivers for it? i didnt bother with them on mine.

I wonder who is tkaing the blame for this, NVIDIA or ViewSonic..... and if they are at all talking to each other about it.

I am curious, do you guys think this is happening on all Nvidia adapters? Just wondering because there doesnt seem to be many replies to this thread, compared to the large number of people that seem to have purchased this panel. Being that I am about to purchase this panel, I'm just trying to get a handle on this issue. I suppose I could always swap out my 7800GT for an ATI X1600Pro I have at home.

I've never had any of these issues with mine... to those of you who are, did you install the drivers from the Viewsonic CD? I know I didn't bother.

I just connected mine via DVI and the nVidia drivers detected the monitor and all has been well since I got it.

MrGuvernmment and Bruce, I did not install any drivers for it until it broke. It DID work from the beginning, until I uninstalled some tweaked ForceWare Ultra (on Guru3d) drivers. Those drivers have a special uninstallation procedure that seems to annihilate a lot more than it should. Needless to say, I'm never using those again.

Also, curveball692, I've discovered that it isn't only on nVidia cards. I think the reason that many have problems with their nVidia cards and this monitor is, well, because most people here have GeForces. I've read quite a few posts on other forums that mention the monitor dying (DVI-wise) on all manner of Radeons as well.

If anything nVidia is a BETTER choice for this monitor, since the DVI Recovery tool only works on nVidia cards. To my knowledge, there is no known fix for when it happens on an ATI system.

The only time I ever experienced this issue was when I had an Nvidia card connected to the DVI input. Very soon after that I rebuilt 2 of my systems with ATI chipsets and video cards. Since that time I've never had any issues. And for your info I currently have a Shuttle box that has an Nvidia 6800GS installed that is connected to the Viewsonic's VGA input. That has not given me any problems. (It sits in a bookcase and acts as a file and print server on my network. So granted, I don't use it very much.)

Well

it has happened to me!!
what a piss off.

turned off my computer last night, turn it on today - NO VIDEO!!!

woo F;'n hoo!

i have rebooted this system i dont know how many times in the last week, and not once and now this!

[EDIT] - weird, plug it into my DVI into my laptop (mobility radeon 9700) and it works..... but not in my desktop x700......

its backm, but now it refuses to work with my x700 PRO AT ALL after a reboot, crap like this really pisses me off, works fine for a week then BAM!

so what happens when VGA or DVI wont work now....
but they do on my laptop?

WTFFFFFFFFFF

<--- is so annoyed this monitor is about to go into a wall.

[EDIT]THANKS SHITSONIC - YOU JUST RENDERED MY X700PRO DEAD!

Just tried another LCD, and a CRT in my x700 and i get no signal on the VGA or DVI ports, so i thought may it is the system, put the x700 into another system in our office and doesnt work in it either.!!!!!!!!

or perhaps your x700 was on its way out...

so far so good... black out while I was out and the monitor still works...

if that was the case that sucks ass :( that means i have to buy my x1900XT sooner then i had planned :(

The power save issue hasn't returned since I did a clean install of drivers after the previous incident. To the new driver set, it's accepted that the output should be DVI-D. Hopefully it won't sleep the screen unexpectedly.

I've had this screen for almost a week so far and its doing well, I've managed to find a low enough brightness/contrast setting that minimizes the X strange angle back light bleed. On nVidia cards, the driver has a monitor calibration tool that has you play around with temp settings/brightness/contrast/gamma to get it more or less true to what it should be. I set it accordingly and looks alright.
