I just noticed that both HP and Dell seem to publish (through VMWare) regular driver update downloads for their hardware... presumably chipset, HBA and other vSphere hardware device drivers and other tweaks. To be honest, never installed these. Should we?

How often are hardware driver updates done in an ESXi 4.x environment?

I have some servers with FC HBAs and the HA failover has been finicky, with VMWare saying "update your ESXi drivers" and surveying people I know, it seems that no one pays attention to device drivers.

How are your HBA's currently configured? Dual HBA's per ESXi host? What type of multipathing is configured?

No one pays attention to vSphere device drivers until there is a problem. Until then, why bother? I've had to update HBA drivers and firmware to fix issues in vSphere. So if you have a problem do it.
 
Shrug, I guess I've just always installed all the updates from VMware :\.. I never paid THAT much attention.
