Voodoo2 in AGP system

Hi all

I came across my old Creative Labs Voodoo2 12MB card and have been trying to get it to work in my Win98 rig. I have a AGP Radeon 7200 installed now and installed the Voodoo2 with the pass thru cable. The rig boots okay, but only sees the V2 card as a "PCI Mulitmedia Device".

I can't install the drivers from Creative for it until I get it recoginzed as a Voodoo2. I even tried manually adding it, but I don't see it listed.

Why in gods creation would you even bother to install that video card. Its not like its going to play any 3d apps. If you really insist on getting it working then do a search on google for 3dfx drivers.
 
Mine did that all the time. IIRC, all I did is extract the drivers to a temp dir then get the properties of the PCI Mulitmedia Device, click update driver and point it to the proper location. Never had a problem.

I take it you missed the Doom 3 on Voodoo2 SLI post?
Maybe he just wants to have some fun with it. I know I would mess around with them too if I still had my V2s.
 
Well i was just figuring since he already had a radeon 7200AGP, why bother :)

Really you should just take the voodoo2 out of your system and put it in a nice picture frame and hang it on your wall.

A nice touch would be to put some blue LED lights in the picture frame to give it some punch.

I thought it would be kinda fun to see if the ole gal still works and to play some of my old 3DFX games that I have collecting dust.

I am unable to extract the drivers I got from Creative, as it tries to install them and tells me it hasn't found my Voodoo2 card installed.

I will keep trying though.

should just use some of the hacked refrence driver floting around the net just google Voodoo2 drivers

I downloaded the latest reference drivers here:

I unzipped them, then updated the multimedia device using them. It seemed to go okay, as it installed it as a Voodoo2 card, but now my system boots to Win98, but sometimes it hangs at the desktop, sometimes the cursor/hourglass icon remains and I can't do anything. If I try to ctrl alt delete the system hangs.

Any ideas.
 
Try moving the v2 to different pci slots on your mobo, until it works.. It most likely won't work right in the topmost pci slot on your mobo. irq conflicts.
