Has anyone managed to install vmware tools in a omnios guest running under esxi 5.1?
I couldn't find the cd image mounted anywhere after enabling the tools option in the gui. Not at the usual /media directory anyway...
Thank you.

There is a success report at
http://www.hardwareluxx.de/community/f101/zfs-stammtisch-570052-110.html#post19939891

I have currently not the time to check myself due to lots of work with napp-it 0.9
but this is the last missing step to move napp-it all-in-one to Omni so I will check asap.

It seems that patch http://www.vmware.com/patchmgr/findPatch.portal?product=ESXi+(Embedded+and+Installable)&version=121 with a newer vmware tools version is needed.

If someone gets it working too, a step by step howto
- patch ESXi (free) locally
- craete a virtual floppy (needed with current Omni??) http://omnios.omniti.com/wiki.php/VMwareNotes
- How to mount installer cd in ESXi and install tools

would be helpful

I am following the instructions but the tools setup is asking me for the location of ldd

I cannot run ldd at the command line so I am assuming I am missing it, how can I install it?

i just wanted to add that i was able to install ldd with:

pkg install SUNWtoo

the only downside was i needed to install a e1000 network adapter first. i was using vxnet3 and without the tools i could not get net connectivity to get the package in the first place...

I just tried this and ran into the same annoying bug as when I was using OIa7. If you are running under ESXi with the vmware tools installed, and try to shutdown (using init 5), it panics. Sheesh...
