VM WorkStation problem with Quad core

I am using VW Ware Workstation 6, running 2 SMP clients, SUSE 10.0
Each VM configured for 620MB RAM, 2 Cores. I have a couple of boxen
running the same configuration and the all seem to exhibit the same problem.
After folding for some amount of time, it varies, I will check back and see the cpu
utilization has dropped to 75%. 1 VM will show ~ 50% cpu, using to cores and still
folding, but the other VM will show 25% cpu and has stopped folding. I cannot login
to the VM, non responsive, no display, and usually have to end the task and restart
the VM. I have tried varying RAM size, upping voltage, different boxen and can't seem to
correct this. None of the dual-core CPUs I have do this. So please if anyone has some
insight on this problem I would be forever grateful. Thanks.

If the VM is hard locking is the box 100% stable under full load ?
Can you run two copies of the Orthos Gromac's stress for 8-24 hours without it locking up or failing ?

How hot is it at full load ?
I've one box that when it gets to hot, will shut one VM down.

Just a couple of questions.

Box seems stable at 100% full load, I can run Orthos G stress test without it locking up 24 hours plus
It's a G0 Q6600, temps seem pretty good about 58-60 C across the cores.
Mild overclock to 3.0Ghz, slight bump in vcore. I can run notfred's F@H with 2 clients
without a lockup on same machine for days. But run windoze and vm and some point
seems like 1 core drops out and locks up but the other core still shows a solid
25%. I prolly should quit pulling my hair out over this and just switch over to notfreds
but I do like to temp. monitor and remote in. Thanks.

The other thing to try is swopping to VMWare Server.
I've never tried VM Workstation so no experience of it but VM Server is stable for me.

Also check your folders work file is not full of orphan files.
There have been reports that this can stop the client folding.
Also check over on the Support foruns that a batch of bad protiens have not been releasted into the wild.

I think your luck will change for the better with VM server. I too tried workstation and had similar issues.

I would also suggest a move to Suse 10.3 as well. Frankly it’s a night and day difference.

If you don’t want to fool around with disks and iso’s simply to a network install and there will be little if anything to update.

Another thought would be if this is your main box but you have no need of specific Windows programs and you are not a gamer you will be shocked at how well 10.3 works as your main OS.

On a box that’s folding only Suse 10.3 is a no brainer.

You are well within limits on temps but I run most of my quads at 3.2 to 3.5 and never see anything over 58c while folding. All my boxes are on ThermalRite produce with most being the Ultima-90 with 120mm Scythe fan. That HSF combo is also dead quiet.
