Hey i was looking at getting 2 new video cards and was curious if there was a clear comparison between the differnt types

Video card 1
Geforce fx 5950
Geforce fx 5900 ultra
Geforce fx 5900 XT
Radeon 9800 pro
Radeon 9800 xt
Radeon 9700 pro

Video card 2
Geforce FX 6800 Ultra
Geforce FX 6800 GT
Geforce FX 6800
Radeon x800 XT
Radeon x800 pro
Radeon x600

i am looking for side by side picture comparison

They are all very good, the difference is negligible. Its only the older cards you gotta worry about. Nv2x and so on.

the fx range was pretty poor for image quality. i say go 6800/x800 or 9800pro (256bit)

I thought it had good AF but bad AA. Of course I never had one.

I had a FX and IQ was not bad...well maybe in you looked at screen shots for hours not blinking you could spot a a puff of smoke or a patch of grass what didnt match the 9800. Speed in certain games was another thing.

For Video card 1 I say get the 9800Pro.

For Video card 2 I say get the 6800Ulta you wont see any IQ differences between it or the ATI's and it packs more features at the same time giving comparable speed if not better.

iight, thanks so much for teh advice. This is what makes the hard forums so much better over the other ones :-p

I would go with a 9800 pro and a 6800 GT. I would say the 9800 pro has better IQ then the FX line and will give you the best performance in that range.

The 6800 series are your best choice for the second lineup as they have the most features, top quality performance, and arguably better image quality then the X800's. nVidia drivers are also usually a breathe of fresh air compared to the Catalyst drivers.

The 6800 GT is the best price/performance card out there right now. It outperforms the X800Pro and when overclocked is able to breach 6800U performance levels.
