Anyone got any tips on modding vista to an old pc?

I've done everything I can and it won't run :(

It's a:
Celeron 500
256 megs ram
Geforce 4 pci 420
30 gig hdd

AND ACPI 1.0

I've tried installing... won't.
I've tried faking it... doesn't help.
I installed from a virtual disk... wouldn't boot.
I went and installed it directly the the hdd from another pc... wouldn't boot.

I'm not flustered. I want to do this for crap and giggles dangit!

So tell me, is this possible?

I know it's sounding like a broken record, but without more info, we can't help very much. When you say it won't install, what does that mean? Are you getting an error, is it hanging, etc?

I'm pretty sure that either of those will prevent it from loading... if I'm not mistaken, acpi compliance is a requirement, and hardware that isn't will stop the install dead in it's tracks... at least I believe that's the case..

I got the first error message, i've had it a ton of times... it means you need more ram

In the beta program I knew a guy who installed with 512mb of ram and removed 256 after and it ran but it was sooooooo slooooowwww.
