Vista not recognizing USB memory sticks

I've got a USB mouse and a USB external hard drive plugged in and Vista has no qualms recognizing and using them. However, when I try to use a memory stick (I've tried several brands/sizes) Vista pops up and says it needs to find the drivers. A quick search later and it can't find any drivers for them.

Any ideas or tricks to get Vista to get with the beat and find the drivers? They should be built in shouldn't they?

Thanks

They should be built in, yes. Are trying the USB ports that are known to work with the mouse and HDD?
