I have a panasonic camcorder and it connects to the PC through firewire. Whenever I plug the firewire cord into the computer, it says that the USB device is not recognizable and its malfunctioned or something like that...

Ive heard that vista and firewire don't go well together.... is there something i need to download to make this work?

Firewire seems to work fine for me on two separate Vista x64 systems. My Sony Camcorder did this as well, but I had it set to USB mode, or something like it in the settings, which basically meant it was configured to use as a webcam. Once I changed the setting to be correct, I had no issues.

I'm using 32-bit Vista and a firewire sound card (M-Audio Firewire Solo) and it works just fine. The only issue is coming out of suspend mode, and I suspect that's due to M-Audio's beta drivers.

Did it work with the same camcorder and card under XP? If not, then perhaps it's a compatibility problem with your firewire controller... Who makes it? Via? Texas Instruments?
