Virtual Server Question

I have been reading up on virtual servers and i had a question. In an application such as this forum how does the virtual server work? I know that [H] has multiple servers which i assume span the load across themselves i was just wondering how this works

Can anyone explain ?

Yes, that it is a good book to read. It's ESX specific, but it's how I learned it...
