Hi all,

Having read so many positive reviews about the VX910 I decided to go out and buy one a few weeks back. Overall I am very pleased with the monitor. Game play at both native resolution and at resolutions below native is excellent, image quality is superb, and colour reproduction as far as I am concerned is brillaint. But I do have one issue.

For me the contrast levels, especially at the very dark and very light ends do not seem to be that good. I used the Nokia Monitor test which I downloaded from the Viewsonic website here: http://www.viewsoniceurope.com/Data/63/monitor_test.exe. When I perform the contrast test I notice that when black is at 1%-9% there is no difference that I can see.

I have tried adjusting brightness/contrast and every other option available to me but nothing has really made a big difference.

Does anyone else have similar issues?

NB. I am using an analogue connection on my Asus Geforce 3 ti500. Will there be a noticeable difference in image quality/contrast levels if I were to use a DVI connection?

I had mine for 1 week but use DVI cable. If I were you I would go buy a DVI cable BBuy (Belkin $49) and use it a few days. You can always return it within 7 days but I know you will notice the difference. I read a lot of reviews before buying this monitor and 99% say to use a DVI cable for better clarity/brightness and contrast!
 
Hey fairwayman-you got yours from the Best Buy deal, right? I got mine over the weekend also and have been debating getting a dvi cable for it. Is there a noticeable difference on this monitor with it?
 
Didn't think it would be so much of a difference. I've got a Belkin cable from eBay on its way. Did you calibrate the monitor any, or did you hook it up right out of the box?
 
Calibration on an LCD is not the same as a CRT. Try this; bring all three color levels down equally. Start with one notch at a time but do all three the same. Each time you make a change re-check your blacks. Once you get a pretty good black go to your gray scale screen and look for tint issues. Correct your tint with your individual color adjustments, you want real white and real black.

After that touch up with your contrast and brightness. That should get you pretty close.

Double check your vid card settings as well, most software lets you add a profile that loads when you reboot. It’s tricky but you can get very good blacks if you take your time.

The VX910 adjust auto right out of the box using a DVI cable, I did play around with contrast and brightness but that was it (both are at 75%)
 
Well I just got my DVI cable in the mail today. Needless to say, its a pretty noticeable difference. The screen has brighter whites and is pretty sharp overall. Pretty worthwhile I think, considering the cable was only 10 bucks.
 
The guy I got it from off of eBay had the username "cjhengineering." I got it for something like eight dollars buy it now + four dollars shipping and it was here within two to three days. Although to be honest with you, I don't think you will see any difference between the DVI cables you have and this one. All of us had regular VGA cables come with our LCDs, so that's why there's such an improvement with the DVI cable. Plus most of the ones you have in the link are 13ft cables, so there's going to be plenty of extra. The one I got was six feet and was plenty. The one thing I noticed was that the DVI cable was WAAY thicker than a regular DB-15/D-SUB/VGA/whatever the hell you call it cable.

If you want to see a noticeable improvement, I think that getting a Monster DVI400 Cable may be the best route. That's really the only improvement over a regular DVI cable, but they are 100 dollars a piece, unless you have a friend that works at Best Buy, which makes them 50 bucks a piece.

One thing I've learned out of this experience is that unless you are getting a Monster Cable, don't pay more than 10 bucks for a cable. Some places will really try to rip people off.
