Hi all,

I'm REALLY looking into purchasing an LCD monitor that I can be happy with for about 4 years. This Compaq V70 CRT has done it's job for over 4 years now, but it needs to retire. However, I'm fairly picky about a new LCD, as I know that they can be bad for gaming with wicked ghosting.

I'm looking into the aforementioned model, but I also want to know if anyone here might be using one and could lend a personal opinion. Any advice from anyone on this particular monitor or Viewsonic in general would be appreciated as well.

My picky minimum specifications for a monitor:

<20 ms response time
500:1 contrast ratio
230 cd/m2 color aspect
17" viewable display

Price is also the next biggest option. I'm poor, so even what I'm looking into now will set me back big time.

the vp171b is one of the best 17" lcds I had 2 neather had dead or stuck pixels and they never had a ghosting problem youll love it

I have a VP171b and it's a great monitor. I don't see ghosting at all in games, UT2k4, BF1942, Farcry, everything else etc. Movies look nice on it too. The screen is extremely bright, I have my brightness and contrast settings both at 30%-ish. And the portrait mode is wonderful - many times I turn it vertical and do PS/Illustrator/Corel Painter work. My only annoyance with it is that the menu buttons are kinda small and hard to see (black on black), but overall this is a great monitor - you won't be disappointed!
