So I've gone through everything I can think of, and the tech support guy said I'm well out of warranty... The question is, does anyone have any idea if this is fixable? When switching resolutions, it doesn't always work, number one, and number two, if the res does switch, I end up with nice black borders all around it, the image squeezed in the middle of the screen. The real problem I have here is finances, as I got this monitor for a cool 100, and I want similar performance for about the same price if at all possible.
 
1. Are you trying to force resolutions on the monitor that is not supported?
2. The "black borders" is normal. You have to tweak/resize the image to your liking. It's not like an LCD, where it automatically adjusts.

If none of these applies, where did you get the monitor? Used? Refurb? If that's the case, I'd say you are out of luck.
 
1) We're talking perfectly normal resolutions, in fact, booting to safe mode is a surefire way to make sure I have inproportional black borders all the way around.

2) I realize I would have to tweak these things, but, let me use an example; Let's say I'm enjoying XP with the screen at 1024x768, right? Looks fine, but I try and boot up a game (Dark Age of Camelot, for instance) and the res will switch at least 4 times upon starting it, sometimes resulting in full screen play, other times resulting in lovely black borders.

*edit* It's a refurb and about 2 years old, unfortunately.
 
Your monitor is fubar3d. Trash it and look into getting an LCD.

Like I can find an lcd as nice as that CRT for 100? If you have any ideas, I'm on a budget.... I use it for gaming, and it's my understanding LCDs are not as nice for gaming...

*edit* I might be able to throw a 20gb iRiver or a 20gb Ipod in the mix, what do you think I could get out of that?
 
Either you will have to settle for:

A) An LCD that is less than perfect, but can more than handle the job
B) A CRT that is refurbed/remanufactured/used, for your price range. This monitor may have geometry issues, annoying horizontal lines across the screen (AG), falsely flat surface (concave or convex), blurry screen at high resolutions, and dwindled supply.

Take your pick. I've been down that route, and I learned the hard way. I got a NEC FE2111SB because I didn't like the blacks that my VP201b does. That was a $620.00 mistake. I went right back to my LCD and, despite its tradeoffs, will never go back to CRT. I am now looking for a 2nd LCD to serve my gaming purposes.

You will have to expand your budget. Look at the Hyundai L90D+, which is also what I am interested in.
 
Well thanks for the suggestion.... I have zero cash, I was strapped to arrange that much. Perhaps I could get a decent swap for a new ipod or iRiver on the boards, what do you think?
