Videocard gone bad?

I have a Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB that I've had for about six months and has worked great. It has a Zantec Stealth GPU cooler with the fan, but I do not overclock it. Recently I have been receiving rather unsatisfactory results with the card. I am experiencing discoloration and distortion specifically. Here are some examples:

I tried updating the vid drivers and reseating the vid card and checking for any problems on it but nothing could be found.....does anyone have any suggestions?

Oh and other than those problems nothing seems to be effected, desktop and whatnot are fine

I don't know a ton about video cards but to me it looks like a classic sign of artifacts. It may be because of overheating? I heard most artifacts are due to memory clock speeds being too high. Hopefully someone who has some more concrete answers can help you out.

As was stated above, it's almost assuredly an overheating problem, since you said you're not overclocking (similar problems can arise with too high an overclock on the memory). Pull the side off your case and run it that way for a while and see if the artifacts remain.

side panel was already off and i lowered the clock setting and mem settings for my vid card to HALF

WTF?????

is it only giving you artifacts in Far Cry?

how are the rails on your PSU?

haha roomates saphire 9500pro started artifacting last night. its has never bean overclocked or abused in any way. hell he can barely use the comp as it is. thus far im dissapointed in saphire the card apeared to be made cheaply from the get go. now its just a matter of time before it is smoked. thats ok because we are splitting the cost of a 6800 ultra and im giving him my 9800pro :)

my ti4600 did that once. first started in unreal, then it spread to my desktop. Had to RMA my card.

no, in everything, even a little discoloration in certain apps....

I have an Antec True550 PSU, would switching the power cables around do anything do you think?

I don't think I can RMA it, I bought this used with the Zalman Heatpipe already attached, I do not have the original cooler.

it's worth a try. i'd say unplug a few components that aren't essential.

what do your rails look like on that PSU? i had one for about a week but got rid of it because it had pretty low rails.

Tried switching power supplies and there was absolutely no difference whatsoever. The discolorations in windows are all in the same spots and act in the same way.....

Here is what happens when I try to play Americas Army with all details turned down

my radeon 8500 used to do that. not that badly, but was still annoying.
i haven't seen it with my nvidia card yet. even though it's bought used/ with a different cooler, i'd still give them a call or something and see what your options are.
Or they may have some suggestions. doesnt' hurt to ask.

obvious additional trial and error, try it in another persons system if you can.
see what you get.

in NFS PU, i'd get little soft multi colored circles in the sky that would just stay there. even if i went around a turn with a mountain or tree or something in the way, when you came back to that spot in the sky, they would still be there.
