As you can see from my sig line I have a EVGA GeForce 8800GT Superclocked 512MB.

Going by my specs, what would be the next video card I should get in the $150-250 range?

thanks

Yeah, 4890, GTX260, GTX275 will be decent options.
With those cards, you will see a decent performance increase if you can clock your CPU higher.
Your PSU should be fine if it is in decent working order.

I'll throw a vote for Radeon HD 4870, nearly the same performance of the 4890, bit cheaper, and will be more than enough of a decent upgrade for your setup

What resolution do you game at and do you plan on upgrading to a monitor with a higher resolution in the near future? I would recommend a 4890 in that price range, but if you're playing at a resolution of 1680x1050 or lower, a single 4870 or GTX260 would be enough to max out basically any game out there.

My Samsung reaches 1680x1050 max and I don't plan on a change anytime soon.

My problem now is trying to run GTA IV.
Works good for awhile and then during driving at night/rain especially it starts to stutter horribly.
Would a 1g 260 or 4870 remedy this?

thanks

Well, check out the [H] GTA4 article and see how that fits in to your current situation: http://www.hardocp.com/article/2008/12/15/grand_theft_auto_iv_gameplay_performance_iq/6

They preferred the 4870 1GB over the GTX260 at 1680x1050.

Overpriced.

In that price range, HD 4890 is your best bet.

Personally I would go with Asus AUH HD 4890 TOP. The card is probably one of the best non reference HD 4890s out there with superior cooling and pcb enhancements.

IMHo for the price this is the best HD 4890 out and so far extremelly underrated.

I remember when I bought the 8800GT I went back and forth between deciding on an NVIDIA and ATI card.
It's happening again.
:D

Would my PSU handle this card and since my monitor is 1680x1050 max does getting the 90 instead of the 70 series make sense?

thanks

Your PSU is enough for any single card. And I would recommend going with the 4890 just to get a bit more longevity, but either one should be alright.

At your resolution, you're going to want a 1GB card either way, so you want a 4870 1GB or a 4890 (they're all 1GB). Essentially the argument comes down to clock speed vs. 40-50 bucks.

I'd only get the 4890 if you're comfortable overclocking your graphics card. The card is a monster once you overclock it, but at stock speeds it's very comparable to a 4870 (seeing as how, well, it's the same card). So if you're planning to leave it at stock speeds, get a 4870.

I assume you are since your processor is overclocked and that's considerably more complicated to OC, but some people are really weird about OCing their graphics cards.

So, I say 4890. :)

P.S. I love my EVGA 8800GT Superclocked!
