Not sure if this is the right section. So sorry if it is not.

Basically I just have a problem with fps not really with displaying anything. I've had my EVGA Nvidia GeForce 8800gts (yes the GTS). Any way, I have never had any trouble with fps, i normally cap my fps at 125 any way. But I built a new computer with windows 7 professional on it. Since I decided there were no worth while video cards around i figured i should just keep my current one. with my new computer i also purchased a 24in samsung monitor. which has the res 1920-1080. i have tried ending all processes outside of the game and operating system processes. So whats happening is that i usually have a constant 125 fps and it never moves from there. except random times it will drop down to 80 fps (almost creating a freeze frame). it makes it almost impossible to play.
ASUS P6T LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard
Pentium i7 920
Kingston HyperX 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2000 (PC3 16000) Desktop Memory Model KHX2000C9D3T1FK3/6GX - Retail

here are the 2 theories i can think of off the bat:

1: the video card is plugged into the pci-e x16 2.0 slot and its a 1.0 card (shouldn't matter right).
2: windows 7 has DX11 on it. since its an older card maybe dx11 has some kind of incompatibility.

edit: temperature seems to be stable in or out of games at about 56degrees and the card runs fine (with an exception of the lame lags) when i over clock it. note, I've never overclocked this piece of hardware before.

Actually, neither of those two theories hold any water. The PCI-E 2.0 bus is backwards compatible with PCI-E 1.x cards, and vice versa, and unless you're playing a game that only functions with DX11, you should have no trouble with the card.

Stupid questions follow:

- Are you using the latest version of video card drivers?
- Have you tried uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling them?
- Have you tried running the card from the second PCI-E x16 slot?
- Which games are you playing?
- What is the make/model (number) of your power supply? How long have you been using it for?

You should also check out the troubleshooting sticky for some things you could try.

Responses:
1: if i wasn't before i am now, and still the same thing.
2: yes
3: nope, i'd like to avoid that haha. but if i had to it could be done. I am almost convinced that it is software side.
4: cod4, l4d2, hl2mods, as of right now.
