I'm looking for the best video card I can get for about $150 USD. I'm on a really tight budget, I've got $282 CAD to buy a video card and FFXI ;)

I was thinking of a GeForce FX 5200... But there are so many different companies that produce 'em, which is the best?

Thanks!

First off, forgiddabout the GeFlop FX 5200. That's the slowest, crappiest performer of the GeForce FX line to begin with. Many last-generation GFX chips outperform the 5200 at the same or lower price point.

Second, can you afford a GeForce FX 5700 Ultra or a Radeon 9600XT in your price range?

I saw a 9600xt at newegg for 151 USD, they don't ship to canada though. here is one at zipzoomfly for 160

And Cagez,

What is "FFXI"?

By the way, with the falling value of the US Dollar these days, $282 CDN is closer to $220 USD nowadays.

a 9800pro is about $210 USD, which kills basicly every geforce FX card..
but if you cant afford that, get a 9600XT

Yep, with the going price of FFXI of about $50 USD, that $282 CDN budget of yours will still leave enough room for a GeForce FX 5900XT, accounting for the price of FFXI.

if your only looking to play FFXI and on a budget i would get a Radeon 9600 ( my friend got one for 69 USD rebates though) Should only be about 140 USD then add FFXI in and it comes out to about 200 USD. hope im not giving any misleading information :(
