My Desktop is set at 1024x768, which is fine i guess

but whenever i play a game in 800x600, it only does like 3/4 of the screen lengthwise and not the full screen. I am not really sure why its doing this. I have a GeForce4 too with the new drivers...any idea on how I can fix this?

Edit: the same thing happens when i set my desktop to 800x600 as well
 
What monitor are you using?

Many monitors, particularly low quality models, are greatly affected by different resolutions and even refresh rates. When you change the resolution, the proportions of the image changes, and you have to adjust for it using the monitor settings.
 
are you sure you dont just need to adjust the position of the picture on the monitor through the monitor controls?
