Hi, I got my galaxy gtx 670 and want to push it a bit more. It's already factory overclock but wanted to have a bit of fun with it.

So I followed this guide but I'm kinda here to ask few question about overclocking in general with those Kepler. So basically what I had to do is to find the max offset for the core, pretty simple, but at witch point do I find the max offset, the highest one the gpu can run trough an intensive benchmark without crashing or without artifacts? Cause in the guide it say that whenever you see an artifacts you must downclock a bit but in the end of the guide it say once you've find your maximum overclock on the core and the memory you must combine it and there is a step witch indicate how to deal with artifacts witch seems stupid cause you took all the time to eliminate those artifacts.

would finding both max core and memory be faster then running and checking for artifacts for hours for both memory and then core speed on separate way?

There are many guides out there, but Kepler is a bit quirky so. What I did, when I had a MSI 670 Power Edition (which is factory overclocked) is :

- adjust core clock (CC) up 50mhz, run benchmark (if it passes test, up by 25mhz)

- keep doing this until the game crashes or artifacts occur.

- Now a crash is different than artifacting (which mostly happens from memory clocks), up the voltage by15-25. Put power limit % all the the way up. Run test again. If it doesn't crash, then it need mre juice, it it crashes again give it 10-15 more volts, run test (mine didn't crash again so I upped the CC again)

- Basically repeat above until it doesnt crash AND you are OK with the temps and voltages set.

- Memory Basically do the same, but I bumped memory from the offset +200mhz and worked from there (memory can be overlocked quite a bit on the 670's).

-repeat the steps above until you get a stable overclock (run heaven 4.0 and Valley 1.0). Watch temp, etc.


Kepler isn't the best overclock-er, but the 670 are good cards, with good thermal cool (non reference) and quiet.

There is a certain model afterburner you have to use because the voltage is locked, you will have to google it I can't remember anymore.

I Thought it was a better idea to bump power target and voltage to max and see what temps are, they stay around 60c even at 100% load so the heat isn't a problem instead of doign your way, will ti work too?

Edit:

Im at 1188 core speed at stock speed but it say 1189 on the precision X speed graph and when I ocerclock for

110 it goes 1293
115 it goes to 1293 again
120 it goes to 1306

So what's happening, It does not add up. at 120 offset should be 1308 at 115 should be 1303 and at 115 it should be 1298. Exited precision X and tried again, same resault... that's at 122% power target and max voltage
