Hey everyone, I'm in the market for a new video card and i'm unsure of what to get. I've got a $300 budget for a video card, but I'm trying to get a good card that offers a good bang for the buck and i'd like some feedback as to which card. If I can spend less money on a new card that's more money going to more new games. My system is a Core i5 2300 @ 3.3GHz, Gigabyte GA-Z68A-D3H-B3, 8 GB DDR3-1600 HyperX memory, 90 GB Agility3 SSD, 2 320 GB WD Blue drives(1 for games, 1 for storage), FSP Group Raider S 550W Silver Certified Power Supply. The video card i'm using is a Gigabyte Radeon HD 6850, as much as i love this card, its starting to act up and give me lots of problems. Its a card that served me well, but its now time to upgrade to a new card. In case anyone is wondering, I game at a resolution of 1680x1050, thinking about upgrading to a 1920x1200 monitor; though I'm still undecided on that. Thanks for the feedback its greatly appreciated.

I think at that price point you're looking to the GTX760 or the HD7950/R9-270x if you're buying new.

Maybe a used GTX670 or HD7970?

Anyone else feel free to tell me I'm off-base but I think that's about right.

At the $300 price point for current cards, you're looking at the R9 280X (MSRP: 300) and the GTX 770 (MSRP: 330). Overall, I'd lean towards the 280X as the go to card for that particular budget.

He would be better off buying a new 7950/70 to get the game bundle with it while there still around.

I think this guy knows what he's talking about :)

Not sure how I missed the 280X. For $300 on the nose you get a GHz 7970. I'd say that's a damned good choice.

I would definitely look at the HD 7970. There are plenty of deals around for them at well under $300. You can also score a few free current games along with you purchase as well.

check this card out: PowerColor AX7970

3 free games plus it's still plenty powerful.

Thanks for the feedback guys it's greatly appreciated, just for clarification. I can use a 7970/280X with Core i5 2300 @3.3, without holding back the cards performance? I was always under the impression that an Intel K part overclocked was needed for that.

That's going to be game dependent. For the most part, you will get maximum performance out of the card in games unless they're CPU dependent or you're running them at really low resolutions.
