I am really confused. Is samsung memory good for video cards or is it bad??

I see that all Sapphire Ati Radeon 9800 Pro cards have Samsung chips. That good?

Yes samsung is the best chips for ATI cards. Bad memory is infineon and hynix.

my 9800pro has samsung memory but i can't really overclock it higher than 15mhz on core/mem on stock cooling without getting artifacts :(

i have samsung on my Asus 9600XT but i cant OC that high(i dont think)

which number tells you the RAM speed on their chips?

Is the RAM labeled with the name of the manufacturer or what? How do you find out which manufacturer made the RAM?

look at your card itself it should have some name on the black rectangles (memory)

hmmm... what can I say about Samsung? My 300MHZ rated memory hit 400MHZ with no artifacts (and no ramsinks). But to be safe I have it at 375MHZ right now.

isn't that dangerous to just keep overclocking until you see artifacts? or is that the way to do it...

its not dangerous

itd be dangerous is you set your 9800pro at 500/450 and let your machine sit..... locked up.

Its just the only way to get the max out of your system is to oc to arctifacts then back down.

you got your 300mhz samsung to 400 mhz but you also have lower latency on your RAM (2.2-2.8 depending on your luck with the sapphires) as where i think i have 3.3(2.8 mayyyybe)

When you start seeing grainy "speckles" in your video then I believe that is memory artifacts. If your seeing flashing, random triangles on your screen than it's CPU artifacts. I could have that mixed up, but I think it's right.

then couldnt u allow ur video to run faster and higher by allowing a few lil artifacts?... like giv up a few pixels quality for higher speed?... or would artifacts damage the video/system?

I think they damage the video/system

The samsung 2.8ns memory on the 9800 pro's is only rated to run at 350mhz. Be lucky you get any OC at all over that, especially without any ramsinks.

the hynix ram is rated for 400mhz so uh its all card limited to whoever said the hynix sucks.

Yes, but it is DDR2 and it gets really hot, besides I was talkin about like hynix 3.6ns on the 9500's etc. (even though it did oc better then infineon 3.3 and 3.0)
