From Kyle:

We have brought in a few new moderators for this forum. They have been instructed to simply just permaban anyone that calls names, flames, or trolls. Those types of behavior are not acceptable here in our forums. It is allowed elsewhere; go do it there, not here.

The new mods will also be moving NVIDIA or ATI specific threads to the proper subforums. We think that this will keep the "two groups" divided a bit more and acting like spoiled children a little less (you know who you are).

Consider this a warning if you in fact need a warning. The rest of you that act like adults need not concern yourself with this, but do be aware that your thread might be moved if it is deemed better off in one of our subforums.

From DougLite:

If you look at the bottom of this forum index, you'll notice the moderators section has changed. The staff and our fearless leader have selected AtomicMoose and myself to be moderators for the video card forum. We have been brought in to help all members that post in this forum, uphold the [thread=760666]Rules[/thread], and ensure that everyone has a good time.

Now is an excellent opportunity to follow the link provided and review the Rules. They may have changed since you registered, or you may have forgotten a thing or two.

Do not hesitate to contact Moose or I with a PM if you have a question. Also, if you see a post that is clearly violation of the Rules or otherwise requires our attention, hit the Triangle with the exclmation point, and we'll be all over it. We may also ask the admins for help with particularly large problems.

Everybody stick to the Rules, keep a good sense of humor, and you will not hear much from us. If you don't, things will not be so pleasant.

We have been brought in with two emphasized goals. The first is that the flaming/name calling is out of control. No flaming/name calling and mutual respect is Rule #1 for a reason. Abiding by that rule is a condition of continued membership, pure and simple. Violations of it will be documented and the users who perpetrate it will be banned, Kyle has made this quite clear.

The second is that we would like to make better use of the ATI Flavor and Nvidia Flavor forums. If you have an ATI or NV specific question, please post it in the appropriate forum.

I and (I'm reasonably sure) Moose are total geeks with nothing better to do than surf the forums all day, so we should be around a little more than past mods. Not like that's a good thing :p Now that Moose has posted, I am going to re-open this thread to suggestions on how we can best improve the experience for members here in Video Cards.

I have been a moderator in video cards for two hours, and I have already handed out a permanent ban for flaming. The directive from Kyle is clear, there will be no more flaming, name calling, or disrespect for other members in your posts here.

I have been sending PM's all morning about signatures and my hands are getting tired. :p

Please review the rules on signatures and edit yours accordingly. If this is not taken care of within a few days, I will start handing out usernotes.

Thanks for your attention to this matter.

Moose

Hello, how's going and all that jazz. 'Nother one of your guys' new mods here.

Like Moose and Doug said, let's keep it clean as there's alot of good information out there mixed in with alot of flaming and name calling.

I just have to say that that was a good move..
it was getting tiresome to see threads turn into a warzone

hence I have been avoiding this forum for the most part..

hopefully the forum improves with the addition of the mods :)

Thanks, we are here to help. Moose has been working on getting the word out on making sigs smaller (I have one of the biggest ones, but it does barely fit in 10 lines on an 800x600 screen), so that you don't have to scroll as much. Also, p[H]ant0m and I have been worming our way through threads looking for flaming. Shifra has already been shown the door, and will never be back. Anyone else who feels compelled to direct negative commentary at other members will receive the same fate. Just hit the "Report Bad Post" button, and we will get to it ASAP.

Is knucklehead name calling????? Just kidding......I like this place and tend to get carried away sometimes. I enjoy the "discussions" that atke place here but they can become "emotional". Good luck. :D

We can't stop anyone from bringing up a topic, unless it breaks an NDA is illegal, or otherwsie breaks the Rules. However, I will request, for the benefit of everyone, that we hold off on rumor posting. We aren't going to punish people for doing it, but at the same time we'd like some rumor control. There is simply too much that can happen between rumors and launch. If you feel compelled to post a rumor, it would be nice to identify it as such in the thread title. IMO, that will do a lot to keep the rumor debates under control. Once again, not a requirement/rule, but a request.

Anybody remember the R520 tape out months before we heard anything about 7800GTX? Well, the tables turned, and 7800GTX beat X1800 to availability by months. Also, remember when "NV50" got canned? NV50 was indeed no more but only the name vanished. They took the same work and rebadged it as G70 so that the codenames would match the names on actual products. The point? Rumors may be half right, but they are half wrong at the same time. There's a difference between saying "GPUX is coming" and "GPUX is going to own everything, lolz"

If rumor threads turn into fan-boy flame wars, they will be closed. We will also try to keep a lid on leaks on products that haven't had official press releases yet, as their authenticity simply cannot be verfied. Also, as needs dictate, we will probably have a sticky to keep track of information on upcoming products. Sorry, that's the best we can do, we simply cannot pre-empt everything.

We are not hear to inhibit discussion. We are here to enforce the rules. There were quite a few threads about the Xbox360 in Games & Gaming Equipment before it was finalized and announced, the next generation WD Raptor still crops up in Disk Storage Systems occasionally, its just in everyone nature to "break good news." We will address 'rumor threads' on a case by case basis - we simply can't apply a blanket rule to them.

treat the rumor threads as such....if you cannot back up your claims, then there is no need to post it. This is of course my personal view. :)

Listen, the object of this is not to put a limit on fun and games and good times. I am tired of the fighting and namecalling that happens in here now constantly. It has ended. Talk about Matrox making the next greatest video card, I could give a shit, but do NOT rip each other to shreads in the process.

I am getting sick of the endless bickering, too. But is "punishing" everyone the answer? (*meh = punished in Nvidiot corner*) Seperating the greens from the the reds, I'm sure may cut back on the bickering, but they'll always be trolls, and what I really fear is that it may limit genuine good debate in the general forum.

I think you just need to start putting flamers in to detention more often. IE: start a flame war... bam 7 day detention... 2nd time 14 day detention.... or whatever.... something like that.
How about this?

Don't follow the rules and BAN, gone forever!

This is not a hard concept to grasp. Kyle wants the VC sub forum to be cleaned up and cleaned up it will be.

Debate is fine and Kyle is the first one to admit it....but flame or namecall and you are gone. Period. You have all had your warning.

I do kind of see where you're coming from, but what you're doing is taking this forum, which is usually an entertaining, informative, and humorous read at work, and placing an overbearing, uncomfortable, and stifling presence in the forefront of everything.

Personally, I feel less inclined to post simply because it feels like we're being "watched". While there are a fair share of fanatics, there are also graphics professionals, game developers, chip designers, graphics researchers, etc. that post here, and I know because I happen to be one myself. While that might not matter to some people, ruling with an iron hand has never been the way to foster useful discussion. In my opinion, you are going to reduce the amount of good and accurate information in this forum over time, simply because this doesn't seem like as open a forum for discussion as it did before, and while this might drive off the fanatics, it also drives off your knowledgebase.

If you are in fact one of the good guys, you have nothing to worry about.

If you still think that this is being handled the wrong way, you can always email Kyle. He loves to hear from you all. :p

Whether some people believe it or not you can have a really good debate without flaming and namecalling. It seems to have been a while since there has been a good clean debate but it will come back to everyone eventually on how to have one.

Its funny to see people thinking that the video cards sub forum is going to be killed off now that the rules are gonna be enforced. lol.

Your point is noted. You are being watched and are expected to follow our rules that you agreed to. If you can't discuss an issue as an adult, I do not want you here.

Whats with the sudden icey atmosphere :(

On another note wow about half the threads in general have been moved :p

I think one thing is many people cannot be bothered to check in the relevent sub forums

We are tired of wasting countless man hours cleaning up messes and swatting children's hands with rulers.

I guess I'll have to wait and see with the new feeling (not sure if i'm going to like it) but I kind of agree with Chris.

Fans of both sides bring up interesting points that made it quick and easy to see what was good and bad about both cards and debate was good.

But I could be totally wrong. It does suddenly feel like "censorship" . Or more like mom seperating children. Kinda...odd.

Goodness knows you adults would not whine about having to follow the rules.

Bottom line, if you don't like following our rules of civility, you will leave.
