I haven't been here long, and I was wondering if all these crazy fights over what card are normal when a new series of cards come out or if it's something new this go around.

I can't help but laugh reading how some of you get so fired up when someone disses your card.

pretty standard. same for games, mobo's, cpu's, memory, etc etc etc.

people don't like the realization that they just blew X amount of dollars on a subpar product, so they'll vehemently defend it.

It's no diff from people arguing import over muscle , ford vs chev and so on. When someone disses card your he/she also disses the choice you made when purchasing it ,consequently your intelligence , no wonder people get so worked up .

Ah but what if they're right. After all someone has to be right. ;)

well there is this thing called pride and a lot of people will take offense to the dumbest of things...i could care less if someone takes a swing at my card/hardware...people nowadays just get too butt hurt too easily and it gets really annoying hearing people complain about it too...

That's what being an "enthusiast" of something is about. You research and research and make decisions based on that, and defend your decisions and why your machine is faster etc...

What is you question?

You know what gets me more. Alot of these guys are not even true !!!!!!s. If their fav card gets its butt kicked they buy the competitions card and start talking smack on the other side. True fans stick by their hardware vendor. Go Matrox!!!!!!!!!!! :D

Being right changes on a daily basis with technology.

the only thing that realy matters is that we are all still breathing. The rest manages to take care of itself ;)

Honestly it get's quite ridiculas watching folks, usually the same few, argue back and forth over the littlest of details. It's pretty normal that when two competing products hit the market that there is some debate about them. The farther apart they are in capabilities the less the argument is. You'll notice the release of the Prescott core from Intel didn't see much fanfare or arguing about which CPU was better or worse. The results were pretty conclusive to one side currently. So because this has been a raging smackfest since the release of the latest products from ATI and Nvidia and DOOM 3 and pending release of HL2, I would have to say the cards are pretty close, each having it's own adantages and disadvantages depending upon what it's being used for. Someone could see that much just from the level of argument. Me personally, since they are so close, I simply purchase both products since I have more than one machine here anyway. Then I let the two PCs fight it out :D

LOL.. great quote

My Commodore 64 runs at better frame rates than any of your rigs, so there :D

Seriously though, I believe that most of the fights are done by the 12 year olds on the board (or people on that maturity level). It is ridiculous to see them fighting about this stuff because the industry moves so fast nowadays that no matter how fast your rig is it will only be "the fastest" for a period of a month or so before new hardware comes out. So what’s the point of arguing? Beside, the competition lowers prices and improves the technology. We all win

Commode Door?

Atari 800XL Rules!

Ah, back in the early days of the !!!!!! ;)

This is the first time it's been a close fight. Other than that, it's been a pretty severe series of bitchslappings by the IHVs - the Radeon 9800, 9700, Geforce4, Geforce3, Geforce 2, and so on. The last close fight we had was the Voodo4/5 vs. the Geforce, and the TNT vs. the Voodoo2 before that.

Basically, it's a real debate this round, instead of a consensus. That's why you see so many arguments.

I find it amusing as well. However, the current trend of game developers optimising in secret their games with one vendor has got me worried.

The fact that it is a close fight makes for better arguments . There have been some good comments,
giving the fire brigade a long awaited rest!

I agree. Since both camps have such different feature/benefits, it is very hard to call a clear cut winner. Makes it fun in the meanwhile. :D
