VGA Silencer

I just got a VGA Silencer in the mail from SVC. The surface that mounts up to the core on the video card has just about what I would call a mirror surface except for some deep scratches. Would these scratches affect performance enough to warrant a return? There are about 8 scratches each about 1-3 mm long in various places around the surface.

Hmmm... darn it, I thought I was in Cooling. Please move mod, as that would probably be the best place for this question. Thanks!
 
Are the scratches in the area where the core will be touching? If so i'd ship it back, but otherwise not.
 
You could choose to lap the surface with some lower grit sandpaper, then progressing onto some finer grade, you'd be trying to obtain a mirror like finish to get the best contact between the GPU and the heatsink surface.
