VGA or DVI

hey guys I just bought a 2407WFP from dell and I'm not sure if I should use my VGA cable I have or buy a DVI cable for the connection to my pc,I have a 1900XT card if that matters.
Any help would be appreciated ;)

Use dvi. The monitor should come with a dvi cable. I just got a 2007wfp and it came with a dvi cable. I also have a 1907fp and that came with a dvi cable. I can't see the 2407 not including a dvi cable.

Would anyone like to recommend a DVI cable for me. I got a samsung LCD that did not come with one. There are DVI cables from 10 to 60 dollars and I'm not sure what is good enough. My eyesight is fairly keen, so if there really is a difference between the 10 and 60 dollar cables, I should be able to tell. Also, if it doesn't say, can it be assumed to be DVI-D?

why is this only 10 dollars. Is this a scam? I figured a monster cable would be $50. It says it's single link, does single vs dual link make any difference. I'm using my monitor at 1280x1024.

so their cable http://www.datapro.net/products/1142.html would be just as good as any other?
Are gold plated connectors just hype to charge more?

"The dual link DVI pins effectively double the power of transmission and provide an increase of speed and signal quality"
It would seem like a dual link cable would be the better of the two.

It's not that simple. The digital signals must be interpeted anyway and when the signal gets too weak there can be misshaps (coming from bad shielding and so forth). Sure, when subjected to too much interference a digital transmission will fail completely while a analogue can continue (with artifacts) but a digital transmission isn't imune in any way.

That said, unless you are buying a long cable you won't need a special cable.

It isn't. You can see dual-link as if they took 2 single-link cables and baked them into one. The reason for this is because single-link can *only* handle resolutions up to 1920x1200 (almost if you're picky) and for displays using higher resolutions you will need dual-link or similar.

Sure, it could be better even at lower resolutions but since no monitors (that I am aware of) supports dual-link that don't have an resolution of over 1920x1200 - so the second link won't be used att all anyway.

Just a waste of money unless you're planning of getting one of those 30" monitors (and I bet you get one with the package anyway :)).

Thanks for the help, surely a $700.00 screen will come with the DVI cable.

My 2405 (from work :D) came with both a VGA and DVI cable, so unless Dell wants to cut the like 50 cents it costs them to buy a cable, I'd assume the 2407 comes with one too. :p

wow.... this cable is HUGE!! The thing is hard to bend it's so thick. 28AWG was probably not necissary. The main thing is the sharpness. With the VGA cable I was having to use the image sharpening setting in the nvidia driver section. With the DVI cable, it looks very crisp even without image sharpening. The colors seem a little more vibrant, but I didn't have anything to really compare it with so that might be a little placebo effect. For the cable weights, can you take those things off?

the thing is so thick I cant even get the rear cover plate back on :) Removal tips would be appreciated.

Umm... those are not weights they're filters, and no I don't think you could remove them w/o destroying the cable.

oh ok. I had no idea. I'll see if I can just exchange it for the smaller one. I doubt there will be any noticable quality difference.

DVI always, but allot of 2407 users get banding with DVI on the 2407 so VGA might provide better IQ since VGA doesnt seem to suffer with it..
